How to Fix USB Device not Recognized Windows 11 / 10 / 8 | USB Flash Drive not Recognized Solution

“USB device not recognized” This error message is common in Windows 11, Windows 10, Windows 8.1 / 8 and Windows 7 also.

Once this problem happens it may seem like the USB Drive will not open and your files are gone for good.

If this is not the USB hardware problem, follow this video in order to get clear instructions how you can fix this problem and make Windows recognize the USB Device.

Method #1 – Update drivers

Problem may come from drivers. Outdated or missing drivers seems to be the cause of many problems in our computer such as Sound problems, display problems, internet connection problem etc, also “USB Device not Recognized” may come from outdated or missing drivers.

To fix this problem go to search and type “Device Manager”
Once you open Device Manager go to USB section and you need to Update to latest version “Generic USB Hub” and “USB Root Hub” drivers.

If this will not fix the problem, you will need to uninstall same drivers and Windows will automatically reinstall the drivers.

Method #2 – Disable selective Suspend settings

The USB selective suspend feature allows the hub driver to suspend an individual port without affecting the operation of the other ports on the hub. Selective suspension of USB devices is especially useful in portable computers, since it helps conserve battery power. Disabling this option will help fix the problem.

Click on search and search for “Control Panel”
Go to System and Security – Power Options – Change Plan Settings – Change Advanced Power Settings – USB Settings and disable selective suspend settings.
