How to Fix "WordPress Needs Access to Your Web Server"
Learn how to fix the error message: To perform the requested action, WordPress needs to access your web server. Please enter your FTP credentials to proceed. All you have to do is add the following line to your wp-config.php file which gives WordPress permission to directly access filesystem to add and remove plugins and other content:
define( ‘FS_METHOD’, ‘direct’ );

ftp_put(): Can't open that file: Permission denied i receive this message
Might also be worth noting that I was getting the exact same error, but I was out of disk space on the server. Increasing the storage quota got rid of the message and allowed me to continue
