How To Install And Play Epic Games on Linux – Heroic Games Launcher Legendary GUI – Ubuntu
This video covers installing and using Heroic Games Launcher, an open source alternative for playing Epic Games on Linux.
Installation Requirements – Wine, Wine Tricks & DXVK
Install both Wine and Wine Tricks using your distribution’s package manager.
For example, for Ubuntu based distributions, use the following Terminal command:
sudo apt install wine winetricks
https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk
Download the latest version from the releases pages, extract it and open a Terminal window in folder with the installation script.
Then run the following command referencing your default Wine prefix location, which for me is “home/ryan/.wine”
export WINEPREFIX=/home/ryanj/.wine
Then run the installation DXVK script.
./setup_dxvk.sh install
Installing And Running Heroic
https://github.com/flavioislima/HeroicGamesLauncher
Navigate to the Releases page, download the installation package that is relevant to your system, install it, and launch Heroic.
First, you need to associate your Epic Account with Heroic, so click on the link, copy and paste the SID information, and login.
You should now be presented with your game library, so to install a game, click on the artwork, click the Install button, optionally specifying an installation location.
The default is your Home directory, but either way, once the process is complete, launch the game.
Using Difference Version of Wine / Proton
Heroic will allow you to run a game using a different version of Wine or even with custom version of Proton such as Proton-GE.
To do that, click on the Settings tab, and choose what compatibility tool you wish to use from the drop-down menu.
You can also specify launch options here as well.
