How To Install GE-Proton in 2022 | Works on Linux Distros + Steam Deck!
*I forgot one CRUCIAL instruction: RESTART STEAM after downloading GE-Proton to get it to show up!*
The Linux gaming world moves FAST. Since my last guide about installing the “glorious” custom version of Valve’s Proton, things have become MUCH easier. Here’s a new guide for 2022, and it works on desktop Linux and Steam Deck!

For anyone having trouble getting GE to show up it steam games properties, restart steam, then it should appear. Took me a minute to figure that out.
Out of curiosity, how would you use proton without STEAM?
i did all this but steam does not give me the option to use proton GE 🙁
WHY IS ALL OF LINUX TOTURIAL INTROS SO LONG JUST GET TO THE BUTTER
Thanks!!
I would love to use GEs versions but when QT is downloading it it sits at 99%, I can walk away go to the store and come back and its still at 99%, should I restart or uninstall QT and start fresh? I am on Ubuntu using a desktop PC.
Does this work for Epic or Heroic launcher.
Why do you have brave, edge, chrome and firebox?
Wow. This was incredibly easy. gaming on linux has come so far…
Hey, I just found your Channel looking for a way to run Final Fantasy XIV on Linux. Now that I know that it’s absolutely possible, I’m looking for information on switching to Linux for the purpose of gaming in general with a focus on FFXIV in particular, but I’m still a bit lost on how to get started. I’m currently running Windows 10, and I have ZERO INTEREST in “uPgRaDiNg” to Windows 11 or anything after.
Any advice for those of us looking to transition from Windows to Linux for the purpose of gaming/general use? Thanks in advance!
Thanks! Made it easier for me to install.
Some distros don't ship with Fuse which is needed to execute .appimage files. For Debian/Ubuntu the following is how to add it:
$sudo apt-get install fuse libfuse2
Damn. Guess my i7 4770 and rx 560 aren't powerful enough to play deep rock galactic.
What happened to this channel?
Epic store proton version ?
Protonup it alos in the aur
Thank you thank you thank you so damn much for this! I am a total linux noob and this worked as shown on the tin.
Thank you but I can’t get it working. Downloaded 7-14 & installed and assigned it to a game all while in deck desktop. Going to desktop Steam library and going to properties it still won’t show that proton 7-14 version on the list. Edit…so I went back to game mode and then the proton 7-14 showed up. Just launched JustCause2 thanks to a kind redditor and this video on how to actually find 7-14. Yippeee- my pc tinkering xp level just went up a few points.
Hey all! Love this channel! A question, can we run Proton on Linux without steam? and still run a game? If so how!
