How to Install Minecraft Mods on Ubuntu

In this video, I show you how to install Minecraft mods on Ubuntu.

UPDATE: Before you can run the Minecraft Forge installer, you will need to right click on it, go to “Properties”, “Open With”, and make the OpenJDK Java Runtime the default application.

*If you already have Minecraft Forge installed, skip to 1:14.

  • my computer treats it like a zip whatever i do. no tutorials work

  • If it doesn't let you change the properties to run it as a program, then open a terminal in the file and input: chmod +x [filename]

  • Is there any way you could a updated version so this because I’m doing what your saying in the vid but I can’t seem to get the mod from the mod folder to Minecraft it’s self and it acts like is isn’t there

  • Does this work for Chromebook as well? I just got Minecraft recently on Linux and now I just have to figure out how to add mods to the version I need because then I can play on my friend's server. Its so confusing lol

  • FYI you double click the file and it just browses deeper into the file tree try using java -jar forge-1.18.1-39.1.0-installer.jar on the terminal. It opened up for me that way.

  • Forge just don't show up in my minecraft (ubuntu), all is good, all is installed, but nothing show up. Honestly, i just give up.

  • A friend of mine is trying to download fabric mods, but the fabric loader won't open for them saying that it's not executable. Is there a way to fix that?

  • I got forge for 1.17.1 installed to Minecraft Launcher, tried running it on a clean install of Ubuntu LTS (latest LTS)

    Although when I run it, it crashes instantly the base game works just fine tho.
