In this tutorial, we will teach you how to install the nautilus file manager in Ubuntu. Nautilus is the official file manager for the Gnome desktop (Ubuntu’s desktop environment).
First of all we will add a gnome testing ppa that will contain the addition packages required, which are not available by default in Ubuntu 12.04. If you are running 11.10, expect a lot of breakages before using this ppa. Follow this step by step guide to learn how to install nautilus.
Step 1 — Get the packages
To get the packages, type in
“sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3” and hit the “enter” key to begin with the installation of nautilus on ubuntu.
Step 2 — Enter the password
You will be required to type in the password to continue on with the process and when prompted later, hit “Enter”.
Step 3 — Find update
Now we will get an update, for that type in
“sudo apt-get update” and hit the “enter” key from your keyboard.
Step 4 — Command for nautilus installation
With that done, lets install nautilus in Ubuntu. For that, type in
“sudo apt-get install nautilus”
Step 5 — Complete installation
With that done, the installation will start automatically. And that’s pretty much it.
