How to install Tar.gz programs in Linux?

#linux #ubuntu #debian
In this video, I go over how to install Tar.gz programs in your Linux distro (Ubuntu).
First, install the program “Alien” using this commend line:

sudo apt-get install alien
cd Downloads
sudo alien -d “filename.tar.gz”

Note: Everything is case sensitive and the file name must match 100%. The program Alien will convert the .tar.gz file into a .deb file for easy installation.

  • Thank you so much for this video 🙂 I am new to Linux Distros and I will say so far so good thanks to many YouTube directions and how to! How ever, every now and then Linux will get me stuck! In my case you can imagine how I could not install a Matrox MGA G200EV graphics card driver which is pretty old but I am running a server and this card is what came with the server. The struggle was going on for almost 2hours until I found your video and it guided me through the installation process successfully! Two thumbs up and you get a like and subscribe from me! thanks a million.

  • down voted for terrible audio

  • When I clicked on the file software install didn't show up. Is there something else I have to install?
