Although it’s now possible to run several types of Linux distributions on Windows Hyper-v, you were generally only able to use Generation-1 guests machines due to lack of support of Microsoft UEFI secure boot template.
Hyper-v Generation 2 virtual machine offers many more features and options available to the guest OS and most modern Linux distributions now support UEFI.
After creating the virtual machine, switching to the Microsoft UEFI Certificate Authority Secure Boot Template will allow Ubuntu and other Linux distributions to boot from the ISO.
Prerequisites include:
Hyper-v Installed on Windows 10 or Server2012 R2 or higher
