About this video: Playing Minecraft with your friends one of the best ways to experience Minecraft in my opinion, and in order to play Minecraft with friends, you will need to learn how to make a Minecraft server. Luckily, you have found this video which has the goal of showing you how to create a Minecraft server for you and your friends on any Minecraft version.

First things first though, it is worth mention that this Minecraft is hosted on your own computer and has some limitations because of that. If you want to learn how to host a Minecraft server that is up all time, more stable, and super easy to run, there is a link in the description to SimpleGameHosting, which is our company, where you can do exactly that.

With that being said, the first step of how to make a server in Minecraft is downloading the Minecraft server.jar. You can find a link in the description above to the server download. This will take you to our text guide on making a Minecraft server. The reason for this is because if the video you are watching now is out of date due to Minecraft changes, we can ensure that the article is up-to-date and working!

There, click the “Download Minecraft” button to go to the official Minecraft download page. On this page, click the “minecraft_server_version.jar” The version number will change depending on what the most recent release version of Minecraft is. When you click this link, the server.jar will download. You may need to keep or save it depending on your browser.

After that, create a new folder called “Minecraft Server” on your desktop. Then, move the server.jar file into this new folder, and double-click it. It should start and generate some files. If it doesn’t you need to download Java and run the Jarfix, which are linked in the description above.

Once you run your server, you will have a “eula.txt” file. Open this with notepad, and change “eula=false” to “eula=true” assuming you agree to the Minecraft EULA and save the file.

Now, double click the server.jar again to start your Minecraft Java Edition server. At this point, you can open Minecraft and join your Minecraft server using the IP address “localhost”. You are on the only person who can join your server using this IP though.

In order to allowing your friends to join, you will need to port forward. We go over this super in-depth in this video, but the specific port you need to forward for a Minecraft Java Edition server is port 25565. It needs to be forwarded on the TCP and UDP protocols.

Once the Minecraft Java Edition server port is forwarded, go to the what’s my IP link in the description above. This will give you your public IP address. This is the IP that your friends will use to join your Minecraft server after it has been created and your port forward is done.

If you friends can’t join with your public IP, you will need to allow Java through your Windows Defender firewall. There is a link in the description above on how to do this.

With that being said, you know how to make a Minecraft server. If you have any questions about how to created a Minecraft server, let us know in the comments. We will try our best to help you out.

Otherwise, if we did show you how to setup a Minecraft Java Edition server, please give this video a thumbs up and subscribe to the channel if you haven’t already. It really helps us out, and it means a ton to me. Thanks in advance!
