How to Make Ubuntu Look Like Mac | GNOME
NEW UP-TO-DATE 22.04 VERSION: https://youtu.be/EMrNBMCaQFA
NOTE: YOU MUST ENABLE the “user themes” GNOME Extension in the GNOME Tweaks app for the theming to work. Sorry I forgot to add that in the video.
BONUS VIDEO: Change the FONT to look like MacOS! https://youtu.be/DnPRLC_48Ro (You will have to download a font called “SF Pro Display” [https://fontsfree.net/sf-pro-display-regular-font-download.html] because that video shows how to install any fonts and doesn’t specifically talk about Mac fonts.)
Having trouble with GNOME Tweaks, Themes, or Extensions? The following videos will help.

In this video I will walk you through how to make your GNOME Desktop look like MacOS Big Sur and Monterey. If I find a way to make it look even more like MacOS, I’ll post a new updated video on that.
How to make Ubuntu look like MacOS Big Sur or Monterey. Although I am using Ubuntu 20.04, any Linux OS with GNOME will work. This video is meant to make GNOME LOOK like Mac OS, but not act like it. I might create a video in the future on how to make it act more like mac. Anyway, this video will include installing a Mac theme on Ubuntu, or your Linux Distro. This video will also help you learn more about the GNOME Shell and GNOME Customization to make it look more like Mac.
COMMANDS:
———-
sudo apt install gnome-tweak-tool gnome-shell-extensions chrome-gnome-shell
NOTE: you may have to replace “gnome-tweak-tool” with “gnome-tweaks.” So, here’s the updated command if you can’t use the original:
sudo apt install gnome-tweaks gnome-shell-extensions chrome-gnome-shell

Hi @AF-Tech I used same technique. But with this inbuilt application like file explorer, calculator, setting etc their top bar is not changed

I hate gnome only because of top bar, extension not working properly.
I'm an Arch user with multiple fully riced WM setups using both Wayland and Xorg, yet somehow I'm watching this video…

Soon I'm starting my journey with Ubuntu and wanted it to look more custom, so thanks for such a good tutorial, it looks great 🙂
Do use Ubuntu every Day
for blur you can use the blur my shell gnome extension.
You could move the clock further to the right with Just Perfection
how to set details of Ram, CPU, . . . in status bar ? pls
Hey would you recommend the Kubuntu M2 focus gen4 for a student who is getting interested in cyber security? Can it run Kali, and Parrot?
Can this work on Ubuntu for wsl2
If you want a blurred gnome shell, you should make use of blur my shell. It's an extension for blurring elements like the top bar and the activities view.
thank you so much, this is the first time a tutorial actually works !
why would you do this thin :)))
The application option doesn't show up. Do you know why?
You can use blur my windows extension also try burn my windows it's cool extension
the gnome shell theme wouldn't show up on tweaks. (I did the exact same things you did and am using Ubuntu 20.04)
Appreciate the work you did, is there a way the font rendering look like mac ? Although there are tons of videos of ui transformation, no one talks about font rendering.
I really appreciate you taking the time to make this tutorial and teaching others how to do this. However, like you said, there are certain things that aren't quite right yet. I suggest making the top bar a black color in this case (if possible), as the readability of text and the icons is quite difficult on the current background (maybe a shadow on the text will help?). The icons at the top right look like they're too close together (I don't know to what extent this is fixable, as that's default to the shell).
For blur behind the top panel, you could take a look at the blur my shell extension: You can use it to just blur the top panel and turn off the rest of the effects if desired. Alternatively, if you ever get around to making your own theme, you may want to look at the backdrop-filter CSS property. I have no idea if this will work in the GNOME Shell, but this is a property I've used in the past for websites. My comment isn't meant to bash your work, just to drive this to be the best it can be. Good luck!
