Does chkdsk /r rewrite the data in good sectors back to where it read it from (like Spinrite does) in order to 'refresh' storage of that data on the disk?
Does it only check the sectors that have files on them, or the whole sectors of the hard disk?

YOU ARE A BLESSING! Idk what sorcery is this but I've tried many things, even brought it to the service, and I was so close to opening my hdd to fix the plate (if it was the problem). Tried this as my last straw since I have nothing to lose anw (I had backed up the data before this incident). Took me 1,5 hours then it magically appeared again!
If this works for you guys, as soon as the files open, backup all the data. In case your drive is actually physically broken

chkdsk is not available for raw drives
But I need to open my laptop first to use that command, no? It said kernel inpage error and shut down. Now its not opening.
Should we use it for ssd
no chkdsk or any software fixes nothing hardware.. chkdsk only lets windows that there is a bad sector there, and does not allow windows to save nothing on that sector..
is it ok to use chkdsk C: /f /x /r instead of chkdsk C: /f /r /x
Attention: if you have lags caused by problems with hdd, this will not work. Reinstall your windows. From my experience
