How to set screen resolution in Ubuntu (16.04 Unity)
This video will show you how to set the screen resolution in Ubuntu. For the video, I used 16.04 with the Unity interface, but any Ubuntu distribution with the Unity desktop should work the same.
To set the resolution, first click on the gear icon in the top right of the desktop. In the menu that pops up, choose the system settings option.
In the system settings window, there is an option towards the center that says displays, click on it.
The next window has all of your display settings. In the top of the window you should see all the displays on your machine, and lower down you should see a dropdown menu that has resolutions.
To set the resolution, just select the monitor you want to change the resolution of, then select the resolution you want from the dropdown. Then hit apply in the bottom right, and if it is correct, hit keep this configuration in the window that pops up.

thank you very much for the instruction Ubuntu is getting finally more laymen friendly just in the nick of time but for the mass's to adopt it , needs work. be glad to spend time helping to those ends but i'm code illiterate I've tried hard to fix that but no luck
What hosting providers do you prefer?
does not work … with default resolution of 800×600 the apply button does not show and the app is not scrollable or movable … this used to be better, but the tablet mindset that everything is equal sets in … it just does not have to work any more and is not tested. Your video therefore did not help at all as one could see and change the setting, but no way to apply it. For a VM_ Too bad …
Ok I'm on a laptop and my resolution is wrong, i cannot move to click apply…. I have no idea how to fix this…
if you lower resolution on a big screen, you literally get big black borders surrounding a smaller display, any way it just auto stretch to fit the whole screen with lower resolution?
Nice Video Man. It helped me because i couldn't see the 1360 x 768 or the 1366 x 768 screen setting. You just got a free subscriber.
what your doing is basic but its not the full story. people are now using tv and not using pc connectors they are using hd not dvi plugs what happens is the screen is 1 inch bigger then the screen how do you adjust the screen size down by 1 inch?
Thanks for the help bro, I'm new to Ubuntu so this really helped because I thought I was stuck at 800×600.
