How to use DEC2Bin in Excel to convert a decimal number to binary
The DEC2BIN function in Microsoft Excel is an Engineering function, and its purpose is to convert a decimal number to binary. The formula for the DEC2BIN is DEC2BIN( Number, [Places])
.
The Syntax for the DEC2Bin function is:
- Number: the decimal integer you want to convert. It is required.
- Places: The number of characters you want to use; this is optional.
How to use DEC2Bin in Excel
To convert a decimal number to binary using DEC2Bin function in Excel:
- Launch Excel
- Create a table or use an existing one
- Enter the formula DEC2BIN( Number, [Places]) into the cell you want the result to be.
- Press the Enter key.
Launch Excel.
Create a table or use an existing one.
Type =DEC2BIN(A2, B2) into the cell you want to place the result.
Then press the Enter key to see the result.
To see the other results in the table, drag the fill handle down.
There are two other methods to use the DEC2BIN function in Excel.
1] Click the fx button on the top left of the excel worksheet.
An Insert Function dialog box will appear.
Inside the dialog box in the section, Select a Category, select Engineering from the list box.
In the section Select a Function, choose the DEC2BIN function from the list.
Then click OK.
A Function Arguments dialog box will open.
In the Number section, input 1 into the box.
In the Places section, input 3 into the box.
Then click OK to see the result.
2] Click the Formulas tab and click the More Functions button in the Function Library group.
In the list, hover the cursor over Engineering.
You will see a list of Engineering functions; click the DEC2BIN function from the list
