I got a used MB Pro M1 for less than the cost of an iPhone 14 in April last year and I'm really really happy with the TouchBar. I'd rather get the M2 Pro someday and use it forever instead of downgrading to the newer Pros which are really bulky, have a vent cutout at the lower edges on either sides which feel unfinished in hands and don't have the TouchBar and then also have a tall notch! And then they bundle a MagSafe cable. Currently, I use my MB charger to charge my iPhone 15 PM as well. The newer Macs are full of annoyances and downgrades for my usage at least.
I’m surprised McDonald’s wasn’t the sponsor given how much product placement there was.
I brought the M1 Pro MacBook Pro 16" with 32G of RAM that costs me over A$4k, but in the reality, 32G of RAM is far from adequate for productivity, especially for Adobe applications, InDesign, Photoshop and Chrome already almost fully loaded, not even mentioned more and more electron and AI apps, sometimes running a single AI app will use all 32G RAM, it's unacceptable that apple not only charges a lot for RAM, but also limits maximum RAM available, like I'm very aware what I need for a computer, I don't need Ultra cpu but a lots of RAM, unfortunately Apple only allows 32G for Pro, I don't want to hear the limitation is due to some technical difficulties, that's the issue that Apple should solve.
They keep pushing poor value options to their customers since most are trapped in their ecosystem. Between that and the perception that Mac users have more money (it's a fashion choice in many ways) Apple has no reason to stop these rapacious tactics.
I have 16Gb of RAM in my mid 2012 13” Macbook Pro
Calling a $1600 laptop "cheap" reminds me that we're on wildly different economic levels. 😂
MacBook airs are just pros for 100s less without a dumb touch bar
Apple knows how to extract cash from their customers.
Don't buy a MacBook buy another MacBook instead. Peak journalism.
Why are you guys doing this to yourselves?
Have some dignity.
I have a 2 year old Dell Precision 5570 which can now be had for under 1500 USD used. It's got a 12900hk, 64gb DDR5 RAM (UPGRADEABLE), RTX A2000, 1tb of storage and a higher resolution screen. It absolutely walks over this mac.
it's also just as thin as the Mac, and still fits in any backpack.
Apple is getting greedy again. All while they’ve been coasting with the hardware upgrades for the past 2 years.
Artificial limits. It's why my money has never gone for any Apple equipment at my since the early 90s. Yes, they build good hardware, but can that really be said now that they're stuffing everything onto the same die and forcing you to throw-away the old machine for a memory or storage upgrade?
It's so unfortunate to see Apple not giving out their best anymore. With how bespoke some Apple software solutions tend to be, for anyone just hopping off of Windows because they hate what Microsoft is doing, a better laptop with a system using trhe Linux kernel would do end-users better than this Apple price latter horsecrap. Advanced users could use Proxmox for their base OS and still use macOS in it.
If I am going to spend nearly 2k for a laptop, I'd rather just buy a higher-end PC and do just that; Proxmox base, any other Linux system of my choosing for daily driver, Windows 11 when I need it, macOS when I want it.
I would already be happier if Apple just upgraded the base version of their Macs to have 12gb of RAM instead of only 8. It's not quite 16 but much more usable for most every day tasks or even light photo and video editing.
8GB can be enough if you're just editing video or audio, but if you do any more the Mac will constantly compain about you useing too much RAM. 16GB should really be the baseline and 32GB should be the next step up. No need for the awkward 24GB step.
just stop buying ewaste. People start to look dumb with this machines all around!
Get the silver because you worry people will think you are poor? Hope that was a joke because your issue isn't with the MacBook Pro at this point.
I hope the M100 will have a 1 terabye storage minimum. I will be waiting for that. Great video as always
I don't know how anyone can buy apple with how they are ripping off their customers with ram and storage , it's a complete joke , and the reason why I started building my own desktop pc's , after owning a 27 inch iMac for 5 years.
i cant digest the fact that you called space gray ugly bruh
You're also going to have some difficulty replacing / upgrading that SSD. A bit over three years ago, I gave up on Apple. Went with System76 and Arch Linux. I'll stay put; it does what I need.
Crisp narration track, and muffled camera sound. How come a big company like LTT can't record good sound, yet small Paul's HW is always perfect.
It’s not a pro machine if you can’t use two external monitors at the same time 😂
Hot take:
We dont need a “low cost” MacBook Pro.
With each subsequent video about Macs, I see a bit more of Jonathan's soul die
1:56 was that a mcdonalds ad
Just get the m1
awful audio, bad video, we learn nothing, aside that you don't like apple but you still buy it blaghbalagblagh
Dude, that one is an apple as well. Go buy a good Lenovo
1:15 Is this the first Mac Address video that Linus has appeared in?
The steps in the ladder are a real thing here. Upgrading the M3 MapBook Pro to 16 GB of RAM leaves you very close to the M3 Pro which already has the same amount of RAM and SSD (plus a beefier CPU and a new color). At this point I'm starting to think you either buy the cheapest base model MacBook for $2000 or you pony up for a specked-up Pro model. Everything in between is just a mix of frustrations and nasty compromises.
I'm really hoping for new Airs this March, hopefully the M1 is out and there's a new one at that same price (the M2?). Then I'm buying it.
I'm sick and tired of manufacturers in general stubbornly putting only 8 gb of ram in their devices and giving no ability to upgrade it! On my work laptop Windows consumes like 6 gb of ram at idle, with nothing open! I'd have upgraded it myself already if it wasn't soldered to the motherboard! I know this isn't a new complaint but it's still valid.
Apple slaps the word pro on everything and under delivers so much these days
The m3 mbp is weird and confusing. It adds a “don’t buy this one” that has been missing from the Mac lineup since the transition to apple silicon was completed. I will say this it could be the right Mac for someone like an MBA student, or an older person who who just needs to check their email and write documents but wants a really good screen.
Gaming on a MacBook, that's funny joke honestly you got me
the EU should force Apple to allow m.2 storage
Still sticking with my 16GB M1 Air, tho in hindsight wish I had gone up to 500gb from my measly 256gb 😭
Zaboravio sam te.
Cuvaj se
I’ve had the 512gb m2 air in midnight for about 6 months.. yes, it’s tough to keep clean. I wipe it down daily. Sometimes twice. The 8gb memory IS ok for my needs but they’re fairly modest and it’s still often maxed out. I like to think the dual channel storage helps a little here, but idk.. I still kinda wish I’d gone for 16gb before 512 storage. Just thinking long term. Beyond all that, it’s a great machine. It’s my main personal and I run a small business from the thing by day. It’s quick, looks good, gets great battery life. I’ve got an app that even limits my max charge to 80% and I still never have a problem getting through the day.
My main issue now though, Sonoma. It’ll freeze on me if I don’t restart at least a few times per day. Usually more often to be safe. Never happened pend before upgrading! It only takes like 30 secs to do so.. but still a pain in the ass and something that I shouldn’t have to be doing. At least I did get good deal on it for the time.. 1200.. 200 below msrp from Best Buy. I paid about 1400 out the door with a nice, slim soft briefcase like case from incase . Actually one of the better computer bags I’ve owned. Fits the laptop perfectly and the pocket is perfect for an iPad mini and and iPhone. Along with a couple cables and adapters. I feel very professional with it lol.
My midnight MacBook Air looks fine. The secret is to not keep it too clean, if there is a bit of hand grease on there it looks fine. It's only if there isn't enough that it's a problem.
It's difficult to imagine 8 gb is still the default ram size. It was too ten years ago. My late 2013 macbook mbp 15" has 16 gb of ram and runs just fine.
Was this a McDonald's ad
Apple slapped a "PRO" logo on it and most entry level noobs will buy it.
That's why it exists.
8Gb is ridiculous in 2023 and definitely 2024. I was miffed when my Mac mini had 8Gb in 2018.
If you don't want to buy a certain color because it advertises you as poor, you are one of those posers that just wants to show off their stuff.
