The other day I found a 21.5 inch iMac discarded in the trash room in my apartment building, so I snatched it and today we’re going to try to fix it up! Even though it might be old or broken, it’s never a good idea to throw out your old tech. Today I’ll show that with some elbow grease and a few bucks in parts you can fix up a broken machine like this and save it from the landfill!

how to repair windows 7
I also want to live somewhere where ppl put those in trash. Any area recommendations?
Yeah, I will just ignore the fact that only YouTube people who have restoration ability find working expensive electronics in trash just like that. 👍🏻👍🏻
Why is that you always finding the best in trashes or on the Bay ⁉😩
I loved watching you fix this Mac from the garbage. I'm also glad it wasn't my money, but yours. Still appreciate what you did to fix it.
Please hand it over to me. My mom put it in trash since i was always playing games
I just got this same model, but with 16bg ram and a 1tb HDD for $115. the iMac was dropped while powered off and the only damage was the stand got a small bend where the hole for the power cord goes. Plan is to upgrade the HHD for a 2tb SSD, Upgrade the i5 to the i7 and replace the whole stand assembly while the screen is off.
Hey that’s my iMac
Amazing
you didn't calculate labor cost, how many hours to do all that?
Apple LOVES to make expensive E-waste.
The best free Mac find I ever got was, a 2017 21.5 inch iMac box. It had all the foam, the keyboard/mouse box and the soft display covering.
.
The closest ever to free I got (actual iMac) was a 2011 27 inch iMac that was fully spec'd. Max RAM, max core i7 CPU and a 2tb hdd. Bought back in 2019. It had the bad GFX card in it. The seller had it in for repair a few times before getting extremely annoyed. The y threw it on Gumtree for $50 I asked them to do a better price and offered $25.
They said it was not negotiable, then I showed them a screenshot of their ad setting (it was negotiable) 😂
When they realised, they said $45. If course I snapped it up.😁 😁 😁 😁 😁
Apple is pricing these parts that high intentionally. They want a 21inch imac user to buy a new imac, they don't want them fixing a perfectly good older machine.
Here is IDEA FOR YOU! Invite your electronics fried DosGuy i believe and try to solder missing components for NvME PCI-E port! I think its doable, you would save thousands of people struggle with still fully usable machines with Drive bottlenecking everything.. Think about it :))
I don't know what it is about free or very cheap iMac's and Macbooks.
Despite paying more than what the second hand market value is, nothing like scoring a free or cheap Mac. 😁
You saved a perfectly usable machine from ewaste – however much it cost, that’s a great thing!
That same unit would cost twice as much here in Spain.
That’s actually quite respectable for the screen, it’s not really worth it given the cost of a used one, but for the fix from Apple it’s not as bad as I was expecting.
I live in Japan, and the second hand shops here have a “junk” section where many treasures are to be found for very little money.
I would not be surprised if iMacs were just thrown out in areas where this kind of shop doesn’t exist.
I got my 2013 MacBook Pro, an old windows laptop, and a bunch of chargers from one.
I found a Mac Studio in the trash the other day 🤡
Unfortunately, another reason not to buy iMac. They're literally a disposable item these days.
These are your best type of videos, in my opinion. It's great to look at these machines on the inside and being fixed, pimped and so on. And I would definitely buy these machines from you if I had the opportunity.
The crack doesn't even appear to affect the screen, so I would have probably just tried to do something to hide the crack and keep using it. Or sell it. Mention the crack that is just aesthetic. Or, if that's too much work, donate it.
I came across some ads showing a resin that you apply on cracked glass and it fixes it. It's supposed to be for windshields, I think. Can this be used on the iMac screen?
