linux web server
that is some very embarrassing messy cable management.
Im 18 and broke, Can i have a Server from your "Jank Yard"?
Just put mine together last night. I wish I’d watched your video first as I spent longer than I’d like to admit looking for that bracket on the back of the handle. I had my kids helping me and yelling at them because I thought they may have thrown it out. lol. Did you ever replace the fan and if so white one did you use?
Can you give me one of these servers that are you not using? Just joking
Are you selling your graveyard server gear?
😁 linus since you replaced your server's can i have the old one's 🙏 for my work
He called the Xeon E-5 2699v4 ancient💀. I'm running a processor from half a decade before that on my server ☠
Did anyone else notice the A/C rumble during the final Ad read?
Truenas Scale, thank me later
Notes:
– The weird latency issues are because of Proxmox. I tried it in my homelab for a while, and however they have the thread scheduler configured sucks. As much as I'm pissed about the Broadcom buyout, ESXi never exhibited those issues either at work or home. I'd look at Xen (XGP-ng) or even Hyper-V is better. I'm suspicious that the issues in proxmox are due to just letting KVM run with default settings, though I hope it's just a configuration issue and not a KVM issue, I haven't done enough testing with other KVM hypervisors.
– I had a rocket plus 4TB drive that went DOA. I bought it when they were new and it was $799. Sabrient warranty is worthless unless you registered them. Sabrient Sucks, and can go die in a fire as far as I'm concerned. Go with a reputable company like Samsung. Even though they had some issues with their 990 Pro at launch, they fixed the issues via firmware, and have a legit 5-year warranty.
– OPNsense is great, and has been better than PFsense since the split. Don't know why they don't get more credit in the online review / diy tutiorial sphere.
– IMHO: I recommend against the trend for Hyperconverged Infrastructure. You want your storage problems to be separate from your compute/host issues. Hosts are disposable, storage is not. You'll thank yourself for bucking the trend in the long run.
Did enjoy the video. I deal with a lot of hardware at work (we run everything on-prem still), and it's fun. Congrats on the new setup.
Eaton has really good UPS systems. I have one running at home as well.
bro complaining about a 1 gigabit download speed 💀
my PC is on like 25mbps powerline
How would you put a console in the server room and be able to use a wireless controller in any room with a TV?
I don't understand why you wouldn't have a backup Generator if you have that many power outages. It would be well worth the cost to have a diesel generator for your building in my opinion. If Natural gas is available might even consider that option as well.
I remember when I lived in Texas with my first wife we had a lot of power outages, thunderstorms and even power spikes. The very first thing I did to protect our delicate computers was buy 2 UPS battery backups. Not only did they provide battery backup but they also were line conditioners to keep consistent power because of the spikes and sags. Well worth the money. I live in Florida now and I bought a generator for my house due to the need just because well I live in Florida enough said. It is necessary and well worth the money.
whats all the boxes on the walls in the racks do, servers or something? whats thems all aboot?
Cool Linus, sell me one of them old 4U's you have there… 🖥👀
Gonna be fun seeing this video agen when you can buy a usb stick at one exobyte capacity for like 35$ xD
Shame you are so Ubiuquiti fan. They are fun for home. Not for a business. You're missing out on awesome networking techniques and reliability. Oh, and Fck Ubiquiti for moving to Protect which you cannot host on-premise.
Sooo he still has no redundancy on Firewall and Core Switch. Cool, cool, cool… we all love single point of failures didnt we
We looked at WEKA at work. Super cool tech
can i get a sata hdd🙃
Well… In the end the Blue Monster will pull you in and make you go to Cloud Storage and Servers. I can Azure you that! 😂
I’m not drooling. You are 😅
Wow… the network topology design is terrible
Nothing more interesting to me then Jake and Linus geeking out on server gear…. More of these videos please😊
What is your monthly electric cost?
The cable management is horrendous
I am currius about your server room cooling system is setup. I would love to see a video of that someday. Thank you
In the power section, are you sure you are running 208V and not 240? 208V is the voltage you get when you go between phases on 3 phase power, not 2 phase power like you said right before.
I honestly only really like server room stuff from ltt because i don't know anyone else building out ubiquiti like this. Everyone who is a campus or data center is whoring out to cisco licenses… which is admittedly awesome and why its tge industry standard. Really like jake taking on these racks with just a twinkle in the eye instead of you know planning out a $250k config and planning the intent out with failover aggregation and load balancing accounted for. The chaos makes this channel and i honestly love to hard lessons learned too. Of course they could just shell out for 4 network engineers and turn everything into something that makes sense. But honestly this is better. I mean content wise. 🎉🎉🎉
we're English version
My favourite videos are just Linus and Jake fiddling with the servers.
The Real sin of this video is the Heil Audio Mics :((((
Linus to Jake"Oh come on, you like it!"
Jake to Linus:"Yes of course i do, i am almost as stupid as you!"
As a telecommunications technician, the cable management going on behind that rack killed a small part of me just by witnessing
I can’t imagine the look on everyone’s face when the announcement that you’ll be going to a home based network switches….
