  • Hello sir,
I am unable to start tomcat after installation.
I am getting the following error
    Cannot find /opt/tomcat9/bin/setclasspath.sh
    Please help me

  • Hi, this is the clearest instructions on Tomcat installation on CentOS I've come across so far and I really that it's not one of those silent tutorial! You actually explained what you were doing and why! Thanks so much. I've subbed.

I'm new to Linux and studying for the RHCSA exam and sometimes find that there are several variations with projects like this and the instructors don't explain they're doing what they do. I love to learn and like knowing the rationales for doing stuff. Can you please help me clarify these questions?

    1. For example I tried following one where yum install was used to install Tomcat and was confused because I thought Tomcat was a 3rd party application and wouldn't be found in the repository and hence needed to use wget to download the external link. However, I carried on and with this one I had to start Tomcat using Systemctl start and systemctl enable and saw it was running with systemctl. Opened firewall on 8080 but when I tested it in the browser, it refused connection. Was I able to use systemctl to start it because I had used yum to install it? And why wouldn't it load in the browser when Tomcat had started and was running.

    2. I followed another set of instructions and this time, I used wget to install Tomcat- necessary permissions changed but this time to start it I had to use: opt/tomcat/bin/catalina.sh start and it returned -bash: /opt/tomcat/bin/catalina.sh: Permission denied. This time when I tried using systemctl to start the Tomcat service it returned an error indicating systemctl couldn't be used? Is this because when downloading Tomcat from the official website, the configuration files are configured to use catalina.sh by default? Then in your instructions you used startup.sh

    3. Please what is the difference between catalina.sh, startup.sh and systemctl?

Sorry for the long question but I couldn't make it any shorter, thanks!
