IP Risks, New Challenges & Emerging Solutions

Open Invention Network’s CEO, Keith Bergelt, discusses OIN at The World Intellectual Property Forum’s annual digital conference, “Intellectual Property 2021: New Risks, New Challenges & Emerging Solutions,” He touches on story, history and how companies can protects themselves from patent aggressors and reduce patent risks. OIN enables freedom of action for Open Invention Network community members and users of Linux/Open Source Software (OSS)-based technology through its patent non-aggression, cross-license in the Linux System. The organization was founded 15 years ago and has grown into the largest patent non-aggression community and free defensive patent pool in history with over 3,400 members, including some of the world’s biggest enterprise companies.

Keith also talks about how we are living in an Open Source-centric world. The advent of co-opetition and collaborative development embodied in OSS development doesn’t signal a demise of Intellectual Property (IP). Rather, participation in the new economy of technology development requires that we manage a form of practiced duality in terms of IP strategy and that we look to community solutions for patent risk mitigation.

The conference was held virtually 26th April to 5th May, 2021. For more information visit www.worldipforum.com.
