IPv4 – Why does IP require subnetting

The Internet Protocol requires subnetting in order to operate. But why is that? Isn’t it just enough to assign an IP address to a host and be done with it? Well not really. IP has been designed to be hierarchical in nature, and subnets are the way that the hierarchy is implemented. In this video, I’ll explain why this is and how subnetting is necessary for IP networks.
