IPv6 BGP Routes Over IPv4 BGP Learning Byte

The IPv6 BGP Routes Over IPv4 BGP Learning Byte covers how to learn IPv6 BGP routes over an IPv4 BGP peering in the Junos OS. This learning byte also covers the process of troubleshooting and the configuration needed to resolve learning IPv6 BGP routes over IPv4 BGP.

This learning byte is most appropriate for users who are familiar with using BGP, IPv6 and routing policies in the Junos OS.

  • One thing to be careful here is that JUNOS by default does not properly calculate inet6 loopback address when using 'next-hop self' in iBGP routing policy. You can either use scripts to automate 'next-hop actual_ip' manual commands, or carry ::ffff:ipv4_loopback/128 in IGP as workaround.
