IPv6 Firewall Testing of Fortinet FortiGate – BreakingPoint Systems

Today is not just any other Wednesday. Oh no, today is World IPv6 Day! Yes, an entire day devoted to testing and launching IPv6-capable services and web sites. The reason that there needs to be a day where we talk about IPv6 is because there are still a lot of people and organizations that are delaying this change, many nervous about the possible ramifications on network performance and security.

Real-World Massive-Scale IPv6 Firewall Test
Fortinet is one vendor looking to put these fears to rest. The company recently used BreakingPoint products to conduct a massive-scale firewall test using real-world application traffic. Originally the test was done over IPv4, but Fortinet wanted to also do this with IPv6 traffic and they took advantage of BreakingPoint’s dual stack IPv4/IPv6 testing capabilities using a broad mix of applications to stress the FortiGate 5140-B with more than 500 Gbps of stateful traffic.

There may be no better way to celebrate World IPv6 day than an actual IPv6 firewall test, showing you that change may be inevitable…but it won’t introduce risk if you test the right way.
