ITU Digital Transformation Centres (DTC) Initiative
The Digital Transformation Centres (DTC) Initiative was launched in September 2019 by ITU in partnership with Cisco with the objective of supporting countries develop digital skills at basic and intermediate levels, particularly in the underserved communities. The capacity to scale and to deliver digital skills training to many citizens is at the core of the Initiative.
9 DTCs were selected to participate in the first phase of the Initiative (February 2020 – September 2021), 4 in Africa (Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Rwanda, Zambia), 2 in the Americas (Brazil, Dominican Republic), and 3 in Asia-Pacific (Indonesia, the Philippines, Papua New Guinea) and additional DTCs will be selected as the second phase starts in January 2022. The DTCs are public institutions or Government bodies in charge of digital access and education. The objective of ITU and Cisco is to boost the capacities of the DTCs to deliver training, through high-quality training content and financial resources, targeting the most vulnerable populations, who are traditionally excluded from the digital economy.
