Lecture 03, Foundations of Computer Science: Making Precise Statements (Rensselaer Fall 2020)
Professor Malik Magdon-Ismail talks about propositional logic with quantifiers. This covers the basic connectors NOT, OR, AND, and then focus on implication (IF … , THEN …). Lastly, he introduces quantifiers (universal and existential) and discusses negation of quantified statements and the importance of order with mixed quantifiers.
This is the third lecture in a “theory” course focusing on discrete math and the foundations of computing: what can we compute and what can’t we compute.
Material is from Chapter 3 of “Discrete Mathematics and Computing”, dmc-book.com, 2019.
