• you would be better taking those drives and passing them through to truenas
  shell commands:

  ls -l /dev/disk/by-id/

  then find the ids and copy them i usually copy them to a text document and add one for each drive

  qm set 101 -scsi1 /dev/disk/by-id/ID FROM PROXMOX TO PASSTHROUGH

  qm set 101 -scsi2 /dev/disk/by-id/ID FROM PROXMOX TO PASSTHROUGH
  ect

  you will get full throughput of the drives for the vm

• Hi! I am Alexander, and I just want to share one of my biggest wishes ever. I am not expecting too much from someone to give me this, but hopefully there is. I have been wishing to have a GPU for a few years, but I can't afford to buy one because of a financial problem with my parents, and I am not expecting to have a known-brand one. That's why any model or brand will be enough for me, and I will be so happy to have it. I have an upcoming AutoCAD contest in April, and I am the chosen one to be competent for our school, but I am still using a 7-year-old computer, as you can see in my profile, and I think my PC can't keep up with the other PCs of my opponents because it is too slow and too old nowadays. But I am not planning to replace the whole PC, just the GPU, because I know that I am not from a rich family. It's not a problem for me if it's second-hand, low quality, old, or whatever; I just really need it, and I will be so happy to have it.😊

• My opinion of course. This seems to be overcomplicated for a file server that will be used as an archive. 1. TrueNas should be a bare metal build, proxmox is adding an unnecessary layer and potential for failure. 2. DDR4 ECC is a much better platform for TruNas that has TRUE ECC unlike DDR5.
  This use case and hardware choice would be much better suited for UNRAID.

• What I think would be good on the gamer side would be setting up any online server. Your own personal server for something like WOW or anything really.

• You are using our money. Every dime you have came from us.We have no choice but to fall down this rqbbit hole.

• If this is a NAS run truenas bare metal. Do vms on the other server

• A question. Could you have used a SAS to SAS cable and went to a pcie card? I honestly am asking because I have no idea if they exist. seems like you'd get more speed that way if it worked. Or call Wendell and ask him!

• Would recommend to pass through the hard drives or better the controller – Even better and I even more recommend it: Run TrueNAS bare metal. You can still visualize with TrueNAS (Docker) – Also, take look at ZFS (RAID-Z2)

• Do not use TrueNAS with virtual disks. It will result in loss of features in TrueNAS, this is because of how ZFS works. I have had nothing but trouble when i tried TrueNAS/FreeNAS with virtual disks on long run, when passing trough entine storage adapter to TrueNAS everything changed, much more stable and feature rich TrueNAS installation

• Just tore out my company's datacenter equipment today, we merged everything with AWS. It's nice to see this in a home application!

• somebody needs to stop this man he won't stop making servers until he fills that server rack then he will buy another one
