Subnetting is a skill you NEED to learn and in this video NetworkChuck is going to show you how to subnet your home network based on network requirements. So, building on the skills you learned in You Suck at Subnetting episodes 1-5, you will learn how to subnet a network, breaking it into 4 smaller networks.

  • Honestly wished i found your channel before i specialized in software engineering. My network classes were always so boring & confusing, but now thanks to you, I'm using these videos as a refresher and you make it so easy to follow along and understand. You give great info without overloading persons and you leave persons with the desire to go and learn and research more about the topics! Safe to say i shall be taking the CCNA once i scrape up some cash and hopefully take on more certs until i obtain my OSCP.

  • i love this guy ! here from 42 vienna ! getting ready for net practice!

  • Genuinely can't watch your videos because of your coffee slurping nonsense. Shame as your videos seem decent otherwise

  • Good Lord, I've never been so entertained while learning. I didn't just "breathe air from my nose" in laughter, I actually laughed – multiple times. Keep making vids. subscribed

  • How Clients of Two Different Subnets Router Connected over WiFi can Communicate each others ❓❓❓❓❓

  • Seriously would have been a great class but you get the class distracted too much .. at a point I started feeling that you talk too much .

  • Chuck: "You don't just suck at subnetting. You suck at a lot of things." 😆
Me: "Hey you don't say that!" 🤣

  • How many bits do we take for 5, because the next is 4 bits which is equal to 8 networks?

  • So I’m having trouble understanding why we would change the last octet in the subnet to reflect the IP ranges. Is it just a security feature that further limits the amount of devices allowed on the network?

  • uh, so you never explain how to assign devices to each network. How do I assign my iot devices to one of the networks? what If I need any of these devices to talk to another device on another network? why not simplify it and make the network different numbers in the 3rd octet with /24 masks so you can have 256 addresses per network?

  • I'm new to networking so just curious since you created these new subnets how do they actually talk to each other on your home network. I know home network routers usually don't allow for inter VLAN routing so how would you connect them.

  • May the blessings of the Oak be upon you, lightning mage. So easy to understand. Thank you.

  • Studying for A+ and was so lost on this topic. you were the 6th video I watched before it clicked. Thank you so much!!!

  • Is everything that is on YouTube is available on chuck academy but more in depth?

  • Thanks a lot Chuck!
I did the test with my own network and tried to make 5 network it as you said ..
As you mentioned in the video , to have at least 5 I have to take 8 as 4 is not enough, so 3 bits. But that makes 8 networks and not 5. Am i doing it right ?
    The increment is 32. I cannot make exactly 5 networks ? I must do 8 ?

  • thanks pro you are the best youtuber ever seen

  • You should of shown the math equation. Big fail not involving that 2y 2y-2

  • How did it become 26. That is the only thing confusing here. Please do let me know .

  • 0:34 saved my life – watch everything else <3 – thanks for the vids, i've been in IT for a while and learned stuff i never knew i wanted to know

  • Chuck you’re really good at explaining this stuff bro. This I think is why everyone runs from IP networking because for years it was taught with pictures of clouds and flow diagrams lol. I’ve studied this stuff for decades and I wish your videos were around in the early 90s lol.

  • How to make this with a dhcp server? Figure out you have to configure each device connected to your home network

  • At 78 with over 50 years in the IT business, I love your videos. I learn something with every Video. This series is no different. Just one thing missing, implementation. How would you implement subnetting on a home network? How many routers, etc.

  • I still don't get what's going on. I'm just trying to pass a quiz on this lol.

  • I need episode 2-5. I checked the channel, nothing shows up for episode 2, 3, 4, 5. Please Help

  • I'm confused, a /26 subnet mask has 62 usable addresses, yet your ranges used from 0 to 255 making 256 addresses, 254 being usable. Am I missing something? Your increment should have been 16. 64 is how many hosts are in the range created by the subnet mask, with 62 being usable.

  • If my smart thermostat is on a different subnet than my cell phone can i still connect to the smart thermostat app?

  • Very easy to understand, Amazing teaching keep up the awesome videos love them man.

  • network chuck is amazing. I have learned more from you then any other course out there.

  • Thank you so much for making this series. I’m going back to school for the first time since 2005 and am headed down the cybersecurity path. My very first class took me here and I walked away from this series feeling like I really understand it! It felt great to confidently answer my test questions with no stress
