LF Security brings all security-related projects and resources under one roof

Security has become a top priority for organizations, shifting from an afterthought or someone else’s problem to a crucial topic in company boardrooms. To help organizations in leveraging open source technologies, the Linux Foundation recently launched LF Security, an information gateway designed to help developers find essential security resources. In this interview, Hilary Carter, SVP of Research and Communications at Linux Foundation, talks about the initiative and other Linux Foundation projects to support the huge ecosystem reliant on open source technologies. She also touches on the importance of open governance and vendor-neutral open source projects. “Open governance has always been at the heart of what we do, and creating communities that value an open governance approach come to the Linux Foundation because they can reliably get collaborative support programs that accelerate openly governed, open source projects,” says Carter.

Highlights of this interview:

Carter discusses Linux Foundation’s 1000+ projects, including new initiatives like Project Margo and Valky, and the need for a content portal to help find aligned resources.
She also highlights the foundation’s research studies and publications, and the challenges of finding common goals or thematically aligned projects.
Carter launches Linux Foundation Security content hub on lf.org.
She discusses the foundation’s role in sustaining open source communities and upholding open governance values.
She further discusses 3 new surveys launched by the Linux Foundation, including a worldwide study on open source contribution trends and a report on the state of open standards.
The surveys aim to gather insights on software development, education, and security to improve the open source ecosystem.
