  • Dave Plummer Documentary by @Endermanch – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENQNG85sXRs – Goes over all the software Dave created in the 2000s, which I removed a bunch of his junk unbeknownst to me. Even though Endermanch was roasting the poor design, he didn't see in its entirety because the adware servers were taken down. It was actually MUCH worse with popups happening all the time!

  • I was pretty disappointed a few years ago when I unsubbed from Dave's Garage and put his videos on the "do not show" blacklist when I heard about this the first time. Especially after his schizo tweet about a secret, closed source binary blob in the Linux kernel only Linus Torvalds had the source for. Fascinating videos and stories about a really cool era in software, but I'd sooner get similar stories from Bryan Lunduke's Microsoft years. Or just watch the Computer Chronicles.

  • Inútil means Useless in Spanish. So when I read Linutil, you know, that was funny…

  • I'm new to linux and I try to follow along and do this stuff but always fail. Are there step by step lists on how to do this stuff? I know im doing things incorrectly but my level in linux is super low.

  • People who only use a window manager instead of a DE, what do you use to manage bluetooth and wifi?

  • Honestly people are acting like there's a lot more there with the Dave thing than it really was. him just being an employee of some company, even a higher paid employee like a CTO, still just a job. Guy landed a high paying job, if you've ever worked for any similarly user-hostile company like HP/Google/Adobe etc then you're exactly as "dirty" as he is in this thing. That type of "marketing" is exactly what every other popular software back in the day did, everything out there was all bundled-toolbars and popups galore. Lots even still do today, like those driver updater apps and CCleaner clones that all act like your computer is going to explode if you don't buy their premium subscription. The whole thing is giant nothingburger, and the dude who made the original video as if he "uncovered" something should be embarrassed.

  • The Dave Plummer stuff is public knowledge, or is there a new campaign to get him recancelled? 😮

  • The Sonnet model is definitely worth looking into more. I have have been experimenting with prompts that are about 3 paragraphs long, and (depending on programming language) the results are starting to get good.

  • Took you long enough on Dave. Numerous MSFT folk have talked about him not doing what he claims for years. They kept it low key because tangling with a compulsive liar just leads to problems nobody needs.

  • WOW!
I think that was the very software (Dave Plummer's stuff @ circa 6:00) that made me ditch Windows around 2001 and shift to Linux. I have been using Linux for everything since then.
I still hear/see/read people say that you can't use Linux for everything, – well I do.

  • idk if its just because its void linux, but the icon chris uses for the ram/memory, it doesnt work for the fastfetch config, and idk where to find it via nerd fonts site, can anyone help me?

  • Kinda scary nowadays how's literally impossible to escape from your past, no matter how serious it is. Not saying this wasn't any serious, it's just scary that people can just call out on other people's past on the Internet, for little as it may be, not allowing anyone to live with regret, but haunted instead.

  • Come on… Talk to Plummer, not to SoMe. Who’s “in the right” is just even more noise – there’s too much of that now.

Be braver, talk to the guy. Share that dialogue, make the source code open source, opinions are proprietary…

  • I do like Dave. There are a couple of things that come to mind;
    1. I'm sure he will learn from the experience.
    2. He must have used the US business model aka Ferengi rules of aquisition 😂😂😂

  • Tim Misiak deleted the post saying “it got more attention than I think was warranted”…

  • have you tried to talk to him? I maybe wrong, but he seems as "a matter of fact" guy. There has to be something more to it? I also find it strange that this has come after his videos of "crowdstrike" and windows "secure boot" being compromised. This all seems like a hit piece by an initial source, then people like you piling on. I would not be shocked if all of this did not come from Microsoft! BTW, a lot of elite people in the industry come on his show, if he was a bad dude, they would know it before we do, and would not come on and talk with him. This all seems really sketch! I could be wrong, but shouldn't we have all the facts first as to his involvement. Although the software is bad, really bad, we don't really know his involvement? Something is telling me you are going to be on the wrong side of history after this unfolds… Just my gut opinion.

  • @32:20 What about zypper it's not got the quote wrapping around the PACKAGER variable. Keeping it consistent 😸

  • linutil?

People will do anything to avoid just setting up agented config management.

  • @11:00 qt5ct/qt6ct and set qtapps to use it? Xfce is based on GTK and Thunar is FM for Xfce using GTK. Dolphin is KDE FM and using QT. Sometimes themes just aren't compatible between those because of lack of features. One theme that works nicely GTK look-alike is kvantum.
Honestly I've found cross toolkit theming to be a right PITA!
Whoops! Someone mentioned this in chat @14:00 😬 Got to watch the whole vid first.

  • Chris needs to add a kernel boot driver into his winutils package for side channel updates and do some GSOP popups 😸

  • Be careful when using the QT settings app from outside KDE.
I tried to fix my hyprland theming and it worked fine, but when I switched back to Plasma everything was borked, the themes were broken and had to reinstall them

  • That gtr wallpaper is fire do you mind giving us a link ?

  • BREAKING NEWS! Chris Titus farted in a crowded elevator once and blamed it on an old lady!

  • I think we need the details to know how involved he actually was

  • I saw some of his YT vids. It’s funny, he doesn’t use Windows as his host OS. 😂😊

  • I couldn't care less about people that drag of shit from 20 years ago. Classic sign of someone that's chronically online.

  • Only scams from the old days I remember was Enigma Software and DiamondCS

  • He’s talked about his wrong doings in the past before, but internet discourse always frames it as though its some sort of “secret” aka a “conspiracy” so people fell like their discovering something.

Example the time he got a job at a gas station by lying about his age but when it was robbed, and the police came to file a report he told them his real age.

  • Wait thats the same guy from "Dave's Garage" youtube channel? ..LOL ..thats crazy, I watch his videos sometimes.

  • this is really disappointing. going JUST from what you said he committed a crime 20 years ago, got caught, prosecuted, paid the price society demanded. we are a culture obsessed with drama and ostracizing people … i don't know what you should have done here, man, but this feels a little gross. People have a right to know about someone's past, I guess…and you should be allowed to talk about it. I don't pretend to know all the details, and there's a chance you have some knowledge that you are keeping close that would change my view, but when it comes to stories like this -stories about a transgression in someone's past where it seems they paid their debt to society -that we let it be. Or at least be super careful about how we discuss it.

  • does win utility auto update? Has anything new come out since march 2024?

  • Tech CEOs are all super shady, but that doesn't really have to do with tech, but CEOs and all the other amoral people in pursuit of money above anything else.
