Linux Foundation Shills #NFTs and Spreads FUD about #Bitcoin

The Linux Foundation has started spreading FUD about free software projects in an attempt to sell the virtues of their centralized Proof of Work blockchain Hyperledger and shill “green” NFTs.

The dangers of energy use have been a tried and true attack on new technology. In this video, ChrisLAS reacts to the Linux Foundation’s promotional trailer for their new FUD report, and give examples of how energy use was used in the late 90s to try and stop the PC and Internet revolution.

  • How about a link to the Square beneficial energy use piece you referred to?
    Thank you.

  • Attacking another open source project for political and profit reasons isn't what I would have expected from the Linux Foundation. Just gross.

  • First, yes, it is true that a technology mechanism is as clean as its energy source. But, given that not all sources are clean and it will be a while till they are if ever, if we can reduce the energy usage of a device or technology it reduces the overall carbon footprint. If we can make a car that gets better gas mileage that helps even though it would be preferable to not use any gas. This point I agree with you on but just have that small quibble. Second, and more importantly, your characterization of Proof of Stake as only for the wealthy is only true in the case of PoS implementations like Ethereum's. Others, most notably Cardano, have no such minimum stake nor does Cardano have a staking lock that prevents withdrawal from a pool at any time. Your argument against Proof of Stake is Ethereum-centric. Proof of Stake uses a million times less energy. It does not have to be implemented like Ethereum is doing, it can be egalitarian and completely decentralized. Proof of Work is energy intensive. However, it is true that mining is capturing wasted energy and driving demand for clean energy. Thanks for the video. I enjoyed it.

  • Converting energy into an imaginary thing, NFT's to sell for another imaginary thing, Money. I think we have bigger problems.

  • This foundation is corrupt, needs to be kicked to the curve…

  • This is a fantasy world hitched to an imaginary train. NFTs are absolute trickery. To say that everything equates to carbon somethingorother is just plain BS and snake oil.

  • 100% Agree with your remarks about PoS (the rich get richer) and I don't think there is anyone that is willing to dispute that. In addition, I do not want to pay fees to a mining company (with stake holders as you mentioned) whenever I want to use the network in the case of bitcoin. If bitcoins priority was decentralisation, it would at the very least opt for an asic-resistant algorithm to something that everybody can mine with. I 'd encurage you to give a read at the ORV consensus if you haven't already.

  • Maybe Bill Gates was right after all, with his 64kb… Insane increased memory usage of OS'es shows Bill Gates corruption in his brain, claiming everybody is doing it.

  • I wonder if the power to mine bitcoin could be offset by shutting down the data collection by large tech companies.

  • why is this unlisted? awesome comments and explanation!
