Linux Kernel 6.6.6 "Kernel Of The Beast"

It’s time for the funny meme number kernel Linux kernel 6.6.6 The kernel of the beast or at least what I had wished it was called sadly it’s just a regular old kernel release that was rushed thanks to a major wi-fi regression

  • Brodie, you're about 2 months too late. The kernel devs celebrated The Kernel of the Beast with 6.6-rc6. Check out the release announcement for that version.

  • Eagerly awaiting the 6.9.420 LTS kernel release

  • Currently running a funny kernel pkg version 6.6.6-999 built with clang LTO for extra speed demons…

  • Well, we still have 6.9 and 13.3.7 ahead of us so let's hope they can redeem themselves.

  • Whadyu mean the name is right there in {{{[[[(((plaintext)))]]]}}}

  • FreeBSD seems to be able to run a lot of Linux and even Windows games now. It does have Linux binary compatibility after all.

I'd definitely watch a video about FreeBSD gaming 😛

  • Yeah, right … making a 6.6.6 joke in a woke era? come on … LGBT+ crowd destroyed all fun for everyone already. Snowflakes.

  • Just installed this on Fedora 39. Not sure whether it released here today or yesterday but here we go.

  • Considering who is part of the linux foundation… run by the devil is not that far off.

  • lol great timing with how kernel version 6.6.6 dropped a day after the 30th anniversary of Doom

  • I have two FrameWork Laptops and get affected by this bug 😅.
It’s nice to make a topic on the FrameWork Discourse, because FrameWork user can get aware to not upgrade on 6.6.5

The more persons can see this topic, the better it is, of course FrameWork employees won’t fix the kernel.

  • Pathetic if ur gonna say something atleast keep it 😤

  • Cool video, which I enjoyed greatly. But seriously though, the WiFi issue isn't the only problem with kernel 6.6. Here on my Fedora-powered Dell machine, the only way I can boot on kernel 6.6.1 through 6.6.4 is to pass the "nokaslr" parameter to the kernel at boot time. (I haven't installed 6.6.5 or 6.6.6.) And, my research shows that I'm not the only one who has had the problem, and that it doesn't only affect Fedora users. However, I've just now checked on the update situation, and see that the devil kernel is now available for installation. So, I'll update at the end of my workday to see if that helps. Or, to avoid the possibility of having to call an exorcist, I just might wait until 6.6.7 comes out.

  • Iron Maiden kernel theme? Actually, there are two numbers of the beast: 661 and 666. It depends on what grammatical case you use when adding up the numerical values of the letters for "Nero Caesar" in Greek.

  • wait for 9.9.9, couse 666 is readed upside down, real version is 999

  • When I saw the version number I changed /etc/hostname to simon.cowell

  • Well, I wish there was someone like you covering FreeBSD. It's sunny over here. Come join us. We have up to date hyprland.

  • im on 6.5.13
stability is my passion (also im not on arch lol)

  • my arch linux has broken two times already this week, but I really don't know whether this is connected to network. It did break during full system upgrade both of the times though. The first time kernel just suddenly decided to delete itself in the middle of update (like what??? how???) and I needed to restore it from liveCD and today it also hanged during the update, this time not deleting kernel though, but i still needed to reinstall kernel from liveCD because even the grub was not showing up (it did after i upgraded kernel to 6.6.6)

    Arch linux experience, basicallly

  • As a victim of the wifi… lol. I've got an old MBA I've been playing around with as a "do crap with odd linux distros on" laptop. Got to admit that problem was annoying. Totally did not catch the version number when it got fixed though. :).

  • framework does support linux, there is a page "support -> linux on the framework laptop" and there is community supported stuff through their forums too with them answering bug reports and such for driver issues on the framework hardware.

  • It's almost 2024 & the superstition is still way out of control. Linux 666 or 777 I don't give a damn. It's linux I'll still love it.😊

  • The 666 has nothing to do with "the devil" or "the beast", it has a astrotheological and metaphysical meaning, which the church of course doesn't want anybody to know. Look what happened to Nikola Tesla and his inventions, he was probably the most popular person to talk about the meaning of 3, 6 and 9. Most Buddhists know that Yin and Yang (69) are not good and evil, but light and dark, male and female. If you interpret the 666 as a female trinity, you may understand why it's deemed evil by the church. Compassion, emotion and wholistic thinking isn't something the church wants.

  • i've been having wifi issues and genuinely didn't know about the kernel problem, thanks for sharing

  • Did you really make a 10 minute video about a version number
