  • try installing dos and windows 3.1 and make an ultra retro gaming machene

  • the iopener "jailbait" distro, and the zipitwireless 2, have different linux build versions that can be found online and are highly tuned to run on hardware like this device. The build has lots of excess processes "parasitic" processes that are not needed and cut down on cpu preformance.

  • You may want to run Diet-pi distro on it instead of full debian 12.

  • I suddenly desperately need one now although I knew the presence of this wack thing since 2012, and archived several tutorials which brought many to end up at some LFS bootstrap screen

  • To increase performance a little, try a zram based swap instead of traditional disk based

  • so from what I hear, that linux would run much faster on a nintendo 3ds…

  • I bought one of these once for my first wife. She used it to remote into the Windows XP desktop and it worked really well that way.

  • I've installed Debian and then Lynx on my red unit… which works quite nicely with Frogfind! I tried to get Wolf 3D installed via snap but that was a disaster.

  • I think the problem with ClassiCube is that builtin ARM chip doesnt have an FPU

  • 128MB is 4 times the amount in PlayStation 2. Enough to run all the 90ies video games.

  • A 300 Hz ARM CPU. Goodness. Phones often had a better CPU that that in that era.

  • That thing is not a Potato, its a chip on either side of the pond. A chip would be a lot bigger. Those tiny Netbooks should have come with a free magnifying glass.

  • People usually underestimate how sufficient is the ability to write, type, and compile stuff on a potatoes.
90% of programming, coding, developing etc, needs just a working text editor, and some kind of way of compiling and running the code.
I don't care how much you are bamboozled by progressive ideology people still write text based or terminal based programs. They will NEVER go away.
I MEAN NEVER. And I didn't mention that people still write retro games, with retro graphics, sounds and music. Writing, novels, articles, essays also requires only the ability to type and save text files…
So, Sylvania… you are legit with debian. Actually useful.

  • Why you trying to put Hollandaise on a potato? You put Cheese on a potato. There are plenty of small cheesy Distros.

  • Hi Mr. Retro Action. I am a huge fan. Having watched this made me want to revive an old dream… Make my old raspberry pi 1b+ usable as the advertised: a Desktop replacement. I am not yet writing this from it, but that's the final goal: run YouTube.
Currently it is very much usable, even to use the web, special thanks to dillo and a certain FrogFind… I'll keep you up to date if you want.

  • Been using those with CE for years. Still do. Just because you don't have a use for it doesn't mean it's garbage… Not one mention of it running Pocket C, Python, BBC Basic, Milky Tracker, and awesome games. The Quest, Slay, Conquest, and even AOE1 (painfully). How could you not even mention GAPI? That's just the beginning. Please stop trying to kill off a unique software platform like the consumerist normies of yesteryear. It isn't cute in a time where corporations are trying to replace history. That is the real garbage. At any rate, thanks for showing how to install Linux. Now if we could get Alibaba to make another run of these for us hobbyists so I don't have to buy used ones on ebay until they become impossible to find because of ungrateful normies.
