  • Important idea in the video!

Have you considered keeping Ubuntu compressed like a LIVE boot?

Removing the big packages that quickly outdate like Firefox & Thunderbird will keep the size down. An older release of Lubuntu or Xubuntu can fall under 1GB. Then put it in RAM with unmounted boot media?

This is basically how Puppy works, but the only official supported DE is JWM — not as elegant or user-friendly.

  • Hiren's Boot does this by default. I really wish live Linux distributions were like that too.

  • Good tip! I have a question. As you comment, if you run the system on a RAM, all changes make into the session will be lost when you reboot the system. Are there any way to make the changes permanent like a persistant system? I think that another option would be making a RAMdisk.

  • Lets say i have 64GB of ram can I still mount SSD and install games, steam there ?

  • That's amazing🎉 but running a full ubuntu in ram seems too complicated for me😂 a ubuntu liveCD in ram fits me more❤

  • Amazing! Thanks a lot for this tip, is this possible on a more lightweight distro such as Lubuntu? It would bring new life to old PCs without much RAM capacity
