  • UPDATE: Someone reached out to me looking for an old computer to run a very old version of a flight simulator. This was perfect for him, so he picked it up. The HP Media PC lives on!

  • Our family had this same PC about 10+ years ago bought new at Walmart (so it had that weblink shortcut on the desktop), it was supposed to be mine but when I installed Win10 on it when Microsoft started offering an upgrade advisor for free through a status icon on the taskbar it broke into the Automatic Repair with no graphic at all after just a few months. Used Baidu which repartitioned the recovery partition because I needed to download an obscure file at the time so the F11 hotkey stopped working, probably ended up in the garbage because of that since our house was foreclosed shortly after then. It was very capable and robust on Windows 7 however, having 1TB of HDD storage at that time was astronomical to think about when 500GB was usually the norm.

  • I had one of these, AMD Athlon 2 630 3ghz was my Daily driver for 10 yrs, Still very capable all things considered!

  • I just successfully installed Mac OS in a 2013 or 14 HP Elite Desk with Intel Haswell i7 processor.

  • Honestly systems from nehelem and core 2 penrynn quads are still very good but windows is quickly being a jerk Becuase Microsoft wants to market to you persistently.

  • I'm guessing it has a pegatron Mobo and the infamous Intel socket that they don't make Any mobos anymore…. My ex's parents bought the cto version of this. What a POS it was. Almost $2000

  • If you install Linux (any properly-supported version, I personally prefer Xubuntu, Mint and Zorin OS… it's not hard to do, it's far easier than it was even say 5 years ago), give the PC a good cleaning and (maybe) add a cheap low-end PCI video card (a nVidia GT 710 or AMD 8570, for example), even with only 4 Gb of RAM (maybe set up a 2-4 Gb swapfile when you install the OS), a computer like this will work perfectly well for things like word processing, spreadsheets, presentation graphics (via LibreOffice, which comes for free with most modern Linux distributions), Web surfing, YouTube, Social Media and even a few older games (no, you're not going to run Cyberpunk 2077 on it — but you can run Unreal Tournament for example).

You would be AMAZED at how Linux can give a computer like this a new lease on life. Contrary to what Micro$oft and its paid propagandists tell you, these older computers do NOT have to be chucked into the landfill as e-Waste. On top of that, unlike Window$ 10 and Window$ 11, Linux does NOT constantly spy on you and upload information about your every move, to the Micro$oft mother-ship, where it is automatically shared with nice friends like the NSA, CIA, FBI and so on.

Use Linux, make yourself free, and save a lot of money while you're at it.

  • If the 70s was the "malaise" era of American cars, the 2008ish -2017 was the malaise era for prebuilt PCs. This is the 77 Ford Pinto of PCs. It takes a special person to appreciate it. 😊

  • Awww the music and the thumbnail and my love of technology made me almost tear up upon seeing that poor PC laying in pieces… I've always tried to repurpose all of my tech for as long as possible, from PC parts to phones to tablets to TVs to laptops.

  • 2010 HP PAVILION will be restored back to life install Windows 10 or 11 64bit 23H2

  • I was thinking of getting a computer like this one! The yellow motherboard honestly doesn’t look half bad to be.
