lol Apple Intelligence is dumb…

At WWDC 2024, Apple announced it’s first major AI feature “Apple Intelligence”, which brings a suite of new tools to the iPhone and Mac. Apple has it’s own foundation models, but will also rely on OpenAI in the cloud for certain AI jobs.

  • Glad I am on an iPhone 13 so I don’t have to worry, hopefully, about Apple seeing that I am visiting Ashely Madison.

  • at no point do you mention that private cloud compute uses apple's models, not openai's. chatgpt only gets used if you explicitly allow it to do so.

  • I just sold the only Apple thing I would ever own: stock. I love it when stock goes crazy with no other reason than fomo ai statements. What a time to be selling…

  • I love all the people coping, saying that it's definitely private and can do it all on the device too… as if that's even possible. The local models are going to be barely better than Siri on iOS 17. There's a reason OpenAI and similar companies are using massive, expensive backends (and why Jensen Huang has multiple Scrooge money pits now).

  • Watching the iphone keynote was like ticking off the new features of a Samsung S24.

  • Elon Musk is hater because he wants himself to be the new AI lord. And watching other people taking his AI throne, makes him mald. He doesn't think integrating A.I with actual human brain can be dangerous, as long as he gets to do it.

  • this man deserves an award for the meme stream, thanks Jeff for your contribution to society

  • Its already difficult to find a phone that still has a headphone jack and removable storage, now i have to add not having AI bloatware in the OS onto my list of things i want that no one is going to be making in 3 years, too.

  • My bro git a normal iphone 15 after being on Android for years, he was bragging about the new ai and emoji things lol. Guess ill tell him.

  • 1:592:06 – kinda think you're mixing things up. Private cloud compute has nothing to do with openAI. Apple models run on device or PCC. If there's a generative request that it thinks would work well on GPT-4o, it will ask if you want to send that request ChatGPT.

  • I think iPhones are more intellegent than all of their user. How else are they using iPhone?

  • Looking good. Apple is like a drug which the addicts cannot leave bcs its just too good and simple. I'm glad I don't consume it.

  • Apple admits it has failed when it comes to artificial intelligence. I hope that ChatGPT will make them pay properly. And imagine using Apple and intelligence in one sentence.

  • Apple cant even get their mac mini m2 working properly with external monitors without flickering and they want to talk about AI? This company is on a downhill slope ever since Steve Jobs is gone

  • Wow. 1 – The FBI asked Apple for info about iPhone software and hardware that would allow them to access users data and location. Apple refused. The FBI tried to hack the iPhone, and failed. Then about a year later it was announced that both Apple and Google had shared all the information about their phones with the US Govt agencies. Now years later they're trying to backpedal and say they won't collaborate with the Govt? Do people have memories? (If this is news to you, you can search for the FBI hack, or maybe ask someone who is familiar like Slashdot.)

2 – Search for: "Apple's Plan to "Think Different" About Encryption Opens a Backdoor to Your Private Life". August, 2021. An extract:
Apple has announced impending changes to its operating systems that include new “protections for children” features in iCloud and iMessage. If you’ve spent any time following the Crypto Wars, you know what this means: Apple is planning to build a backdoor into its data storage system and its messaging system. Apple’s compromise on end-to-end encryption may appease government agencies in the U.S. and abroad, but it is a shocking about-face for users who have relied on the company’s leadership in privacy and security.

3 – When there were protests in China against the Government, APple restricted the use of Airdrop, so users could not communicate and therefore could not coordinate any kind of protest or rebellion. So Apple have already shown they are on the side of the totalitarian Government takeover. Search for this headline: "apple-restricted-airdrop-capabilities-in-china-ahead-of-protests"

Elon, while brilliant on many things, has been slow to wake up to Apple. But he'll get it now. Probably start collaborating with Linux smartphone OS development I would guess, or start his own. It's really hotting up now, your freedom is at stake – maybe even more.

This has been a public service announcement. 🙂🙂

  • You kind of mixed up their private cloud compute with ChatGPT. As Apple explained the order goes like this: on device AI -> private cloud compute (using Apple models) -> optionally ChatGPT if the on device and Apple’s cloud models are insufficient

  • the dark side of tech, once you see it there is no running back from it ..

  • The last lines got me. To use linux and a non smartphone😂

  • Do you think they'll have thousands of people in India pushing buttons and pulling levers to make the "models" work?
    AI == "Actually Indians"

  • The last thing I would want is an AI sh*t sitting in my phone/computer reporting everything to the government and all sorts of other creepy people out there.

  • Haha you already went to the future and back, a flip phone and Linux, that's it!! 😂

  • the average person isn't using their phones for anything beyond texting, porn, social media, selfies, and a calender or some note thing. We really need skynet for that?

  • Yeah, microsoft is the prime evil. I would rather switch to Pixel, and just give Google all my data, microsoft sux

  • I bought a gpd laptop with linux somewhat fits in some of my jeans or backpack and replaced my phone successfully

  • You get one thumb down for not using "this is the worst it will ever be"

  • I’m sure GenMoji was exactly what the Apple Investors were looking for…
