LPIC-1 vs. Linux+: Which is Better?

The CompTIA Linux+ and Linux Professional Institute (LPI) LPIC-1 are the two most prominent, vendor-neutral Linux certifications available today for those looking to acquire entry-level Linux certs.

Until recently, CompTIA and the LPI had a partnership that guaranteed LPIC-1 certification to anyone who passed CompTIA’s Linux+ exam. In this video, CBT Nuggets trainer Shawn Powers weighs in on which certification is best for you to pursue since their breakup in April 2019.

  • There are 2 other benefits of the L+: 1 – you get to renew ALL your CompTIA certs. If you pass, the 3 year expiration resets. 2 – The L+ stackable with the A+. If you have the A+ and L+ you automatically get the "CompTIA Systems Support Specialist" (CSSS). FWIW. I'm doing the L+ FIRST but will go the LPIC-1 SECOND. And then in a perfect world I'd wrap all LPIC and move into RH. HR folks love to see a dozen ACTIVE certs.

  • My very first certification will be Linux Essentials (LPI) i dont have no CompTIA certs at all but im will to start off with Linux

  • if they are 95% the same, I'd argue that there is no reason to get both.Your kitty is the prettiest and happiest, most inviting thing in your room.

  • just wondering how the linux foundation CSA cert fits in? some other videos on youtube said it was the best of the three.

  • Thanks. This was helpful. And I can tell you´re a trustworthy biped by how sleepy and relaxed your cat is.

  • all these time i'm confused which is better? after this video all things became clear. thanks shawn

  • great clarification , thank you so much

  • Shawn i'm getting old…waiting for your lpic v5 course mate lol 🙂 come on i know there is a course there but when it comes to linux first name that pops in my head is Shawn! Thanks to you i got few certs over the years and now it's time to update and keep up lol please if you ever get free time sort out lpic-1 v5 and maybe linux+ along side with it 🙂 but please do it because you are amazing teacher and i know if i watch your tutorials i am exam ready and confident out there. take care and many thanks

  • Very helpful information!! It still rubs me wrong that comptia certs aren't for life.

  • He hit it on the nail..take the LPIC first then the Linux+ an you will clinch the Linux+ with your eyes closed..Thanks for the share big guy 🤟🏽

  • Seems your dog more interesed to know about competia & Linux+
It was sleeping during your explaination of LPICs.😁😀
    Great video .. thank you

  • I studied the first 15 chapters of LPIC 1 (part 1) and have had to drop it, because while it does give me theoretical knowledge of Linux, it doesn't actually make me much better at using / administering Linux. Therefore I've switched to RHCSA to get way more hands on experience.

  • You are the only person I have found on YouTube that clearly explained the difference between these certifications. Thank you!!!!!

  • Your cat wasn't happy with the explanation…. "I am bored, let me just go back to sleep!" 😀

  • I just bombed the Linux+ after completing all of their training materials and practice exams. Now I'm going back to focus more on scenarios, because it's 60 percent scenarios.

  • I'm about to start a 2 year program covering Linux+, Pentest+, CCNA and CYSA+ in order to secure me a job in cybersecurity for my future! wish me luck! I know it's not going to be easy… lol

  • How long are linux plus and lpic-1 certificates officially recognized by employers? or when do you have to renew these certificates?

  • Which of the 2 would serve as a good prerequisite for RHCSA?

  • What is the purpose of Linux Foundation certification and how do you break it down? Also could it be a qualification as good as LPIC'S or RHCSA'S?

  • sooo, now I'm preparing myself for security plus next will be networking and after that linux + somebody pressed rewind button on me or what?

  • What are your thoughts regarding LPIC-1 vs LFCS from the Linux Foundation?

  • Than why is CompTIA Linnux+ is more popular than LPIC and most importantly Linux+ graduates get job much faster than LPIC.

  • Linux specific is more my speed. That is what I was looking for.

  • The answer people were looking for is actually quite simple, not which is better. But which is commonly more hirable.

  • Great video… Not sure why any body would give it a thumbs down 🤷🏽‍♂️
