I went down a rabbit hole with this one, with starting to install elementary os for my laptop all the way down to compiling wlvwm window manager to have a system 7 look and feel. thanks for the view!

Being honest it seems like they should have a script that does all the stuff required to make it look like classic Mac OS GUI… why manually copy this and that?
Better yet. A distro with a preconfigured Mac OS like GUI
