  • Software freedom is a philosophy, a political one, because it relates to the relationship of the individual and the institution. But it is also a philosophy of science, part philosophy of the purpose of technology… It's so much!

  • You are so handsome with a haircut and you are Vegan too❤

  • I think the best argument for Free and Open Source Software is: imagine you have an implant that helps you with some disease, and this implant only works with proprietary software, what would happen if the company stops supporting that product or simply goes bankrupt? what would happen to your implant? there's the possibility that it will still keep working, but then you don't have any way to control it, fix it or improve it, and what will most likely happen is that the company will retrieve the product from you. This is what happened to Rita Leggett:

"Sticking an electrode inside a person’s brain can do more than treat a disease. Take the case of Rita Leggett, an Australian woman whose experimental brain implant changed her sense of agency and self. She told researchers that she 'became one' with her device. She was devastated when, two years later, she was told she had to remove the implant because the company that made it had gone bust." – From MIT Technology Review, article titled "A brain implant changed her life. Then it was removed against her will."

This is a testament to how important FOSS is for everyone, we as individuals, groups, and communities NEED control over the software that we use, because otherwise this power would be in the hands of few and we will be in the mercy of those that have it. This example is just the start, imagine that whole parts of your body aren't under your control, imagine you have a computer similar to a phone inside your brain that you don't have any control over and feeds you incorrect/biased information. What would happen to our society?

  • How come you all upload so late at night?

  • The FSFE is what I want the FSF in America to be.

  • It makes me sad when I come across GNU/Linux users who only see it as an alternative OS to Windows or Mac but it's way more than that. GNU/Linux was created by Richard Stallman and the community of Devs worldwide as a Free Software OS that protects the values of Free Software.
(And we mean Free as in "Freedom" not free of charge, even though most of it is free of charge).

I use GNU/Linux because I want to use a Free Software OS which is totally open to me to inspect, modify, use, redistribute etc and which protects my privacy and also runs on everything, making old hardware useful for much, much longer.

Free Software is good for the environment because instead of discarding old PCs you can extend its like by using it for at least another decade, if not longer.

  • This is the very best episode of Techlore EVER. Because it is THE most important topic in the Technology sphere. Even MORE important than privacy because privacy is just one topic included under the Free Software Principles.

It should be mandatory that every GNU/Linux user watches a short video about what Free Software is because it's literally the reason that GNU/Linux exists and why it's become the dominant OS on earth.
