MCQ-64 | Understanding Class-A IPv4 Addressing: What is the NET-ID?
*Question-64: What is NET-ID of Class-A IPv4 addressing?*
In Class-A IPv4 addressing, the first octet (the leftmost 8 bits) is used to represent the network portion of the address, while the remaining three octets represent the host portion of the address. Therefore, the NET-ID (network identifier) in Class-A IPv4 addressing is simply the first octet of the IP address.
The range of Class-A IPv4 addresses is from 1.0.0.0 to 126.0.0.0, with a default subnet mask of 255.0.0.0. This means that the first octet of any Class-A IPv4 address will be a value between 1 and 126, inclusive. For example, the NET-ID of the IP address 10.0.0.1 is 10.
