More computing power for weather forecasting… and a mass storage system to match
METEO FRANCE has recently renewed its scientific computing infrastructure. Their need in computing power had dramatically increased. In 2013, they turned to Atos to replace their two 40-teraflops vector systems with two bullx 500-teraflops scalar systems.From the beginning of 2016, the computing power is expected to reach 5 petaflops and will consequently generate
more data.
In 2014, METEO FRANCE turned to Atos again to deliver a mass storage system, capable of encompassing the data explosion and the challenges of data preservation and data re-use.
This new project consisted of the design of the new architecture and the migration of 150 million files and 15 petabytes while providing continuous access to all files during the migration process.
