• Hackers don't generally like representations of hackers in popular culture because the only way they can make hacking look cool is by taking a task that represents hundreds of painstaking hours of labour and making a 'genius' do it in 5 seconds.

  I would also be mad if carpenters in movies said 'I'm going to build a house now', then built a house in the space of a few minutes.

• that situation does suck, but to answer the original question, compared to every other "tv" show, nothing else comes close to accurate usage of tools. Is it perfect, no, but there was some liberties for drama/excitement.

• I mean I'd put the blame for that gaffe at the feet of their on-set hacking consultant for not looking into what that solution was, not the entire show. There is a lot of incredible work put into that show, this was definitely a mistake they made though.
