Nmap (Network Mapper) is an open-source tool that specializes in network exploitation and security auditing. Many systems+network administrators and Pentration Tester find it useful for tasks such as
network inventory, managing service, Detect Network Services Open ports, Monitoring host and node.
Nmap uses raw IP Packets in novel ways to determine what host are available on the the network. Nmap Detect What services those host are running like service name and version, What oparating system
they are Running like OS Name and OS Version, What type of firewalls mean packet filters they are use and tons of another information+fingerprint.
It was designed to rapidly scan large networks. But it works fine against single networks.
Nmap created by Gordon Lyon (also known by his pseudonym Fyodor Vaskovich). He was Vice President of Computer Professionals for Social Responsibility.
Nmap started as a Linux utility and was ported to other systems including Windows, macOS, and BSD.
It is most popular on Linux, followed by Windows.
Nmap is pre-installed in Kali Linux.
