  • When it comes to hardware compatibility and desktop environment, Ubuntu does such a great job but they should get rid of their snap store or make it cleaner. Despite these security issues snap apps also load slower.

  • I am glad I am using debian. I never liked ububtu.

  • Unfortunately, this isn't unique to Snaps. Both the AUR and Flatpak have had similar issues in the past. I'd prefer a better verification process, however for Snaps and Flatpaks.

  • Flatpak your life….Mint is refreshing

  • I've never been a fan of snaps and avoid using them completely. I don't really trust Flatpaks either.

  • It may be time for Linux Mint to dump the Ubuntu base, and stick with LMDE. This may also free up some time for devs to put more work into LMDE, such as a newer kernel and/or some of the software.

  • Mint removing Snap was one of the best turns recently.

  • Snap is literally the same as the M$ store, including the malware aspect

  • i will NEVER use snaps….bloated, slow….

  • I would rather see a store with a smaller number of quality trusted apps rather than one with a large number of low quality unverified apps. Most of the apps in the big stores seem to be more of an ad delivery system with a poor quality app tacked on.

  • Sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen.

  • I'm on SteamOS, which uses Flatpak by default. It's based on Arch, BTW.

  • The Snap store reminds me of the Microsoft Store years ago, but less secure.

  • Canonical should review ALL snaps unless it is a trusted vendor ie Spotify snap is most likely not going to upload malware or a trusted developer known in the open source community.

I stay away from snaps and flatpak as much as possible. I use the repository’s deb, rpm or app images from trusted software.
