Panel Discussion: The Impact of AI Regulation on Open Innovation in AI

Panel Discussion: The Impact of AI Regulation on Open Innovation in AI – Ben Brooks, Stability AI; Amanda Brock, OpenUK; Peter Cihon, GitHub

Open models and databases play a vital role in promoting transparency, competition, and security in AI. AI must be developed and deployed safely, and open models raise important questions about the future of AI oversight. However, in their race to introduce new rules for model development, governments run the risk of stifling open innovation. Join Stability AI’s Head of Public Policy, OpenUK’s CEO and Mozilla’s Imo Udom as they explore how different approaches to AI regulation may affect open AI development and innovation across the US, EU, UK and beyond. Each jurisdiction is taking a radically different approach. This session will compare how different governments think about the opportunities and risks of open innovation in AI; what different regulatory frameworks mean for open innovation in our diverse AI ecosystem; and how developers and researchers can help to shape AI reform.
