PiHole Setup with Unbound Upstream DNS

A conversation on DSI led to people asking how to have their private DNS resolver, with ad blocking, on their network. This video shows the whole uncut show.

We use PiHole to block the ads; we use Unbound DNS to be our recursive DNS server. This setup can be done in under 10 minutes on a bare Debian-based VM, and even quicker with Docker images.

Documentation sources include:

All content recorded and created by me directly. No paid promotion included. No fancy microphones, no major prepwork. Hopefully, a new video can be shot without the ums or ahhs, but that’s for another day and time. Sorry for all the Terminal Dings.

To contact me directly, please email me at luke@talk-about-it.ca. I am looking for video and picture editors to help out if I start making more of these videos.
