Popular Operating Systems of the Year 2000
After you woke up from that party we all had in 1999 you probably checked your AIM messages and printed some maps for the drive home. Here’s the operating systems you may have used to do so.
Please excuse the hoarse voice, zero day of a cold and I wanted to finish before I couldn’t speak
how to repair windows 7
I am 16 and i think this is cool
Great video Ike, very imformative
I have a 9300 xl that I haven’t been able to get the video in working on. I’ve tried all sorts of drivers as well as windows xp and 2000, to no avail. The driver will install, but after a reboot it has a yellow exclamation mark by it. Any tips to get it working?
I am a Linux user and have been for over 15 years… but back in the day I actually ran Windows 2k Advanced Server at home (after sort of falling in like with it at work) and it was BY FAR the most stable Windows that I have ever worked with. It was a pretty nice OS! ..for Windows.
I love the video, would you try daws in the windows 2000 laptop in another video ?
I'm a weirdo and love ME and Vista but hate 8…
I dont think anything is more universally hated than Win8…
Great Vid Brotha!, I Ran Win 2k Sp4 on EVERYTING.
Had a Whitebox that I actually purchased Boxed copies of SuSE & Redhat to mess with, but typically win 2k.
I Loved WinME, but my Bootlegg copy killed out AMD DX4-100, I was grounded for a bit
New Sub; Dryden, Mich.
Back then I was using SuSE as my mostly daily driver. I switched to Mandrake/Mandriva a bit later. These days, I mostly use Debian, and FreeBSD.
Awesome and interesting video. I grew up with 95,98,2000 but I clearly remember using win 98 until XP came out.
what resolution does your old gateway with windows 2000 pro have?
looks very high
that battery is janky asf #jankware
I appreciate your masterpiece ❤
bro we are in 2024 right now what are you talking about💀💀
Another niche channel that covers hardware from the 2000s? Yes please!
Windows 2000 was a vast improvement over Dos based systems but Win 98 SE was the ultimate in it's class. ME had some programs that were sorely needed but it was too little, too late. I tried Linux in the early 2000s and was overwhelmed by it's complexity(SUSE,I think). Now Linux Mint is my daily driver-either I have been touched by the genius stick or Linux has improved in customer ease of use. Somehow,I think the latter applies.
I have an MSI U100 PLUS, it's slow, and I was forced to install Windows XP on that. The first things I did were install legacy updates and Snappy Driver Installer, SDI is slow but very good, installed all the drivers and my computer feels great, well, as great as intel atom n280 could feel.
I was using RISC OS in 2000 on my Acorn RISC PC
11:43 If anyone's interested, you can get Windows 10, and probably older OS too, to play a shutdown sound by programming it as an automated task on shutdown. You may also need to lengthen the shutdown delay time in the registry. You can also enable a startup sound in the registry, or in Tweak UI, if the setting in Windows soundschemes won't work. I'm no computer expert, but it worked for me. Google has lots of tutorials.
16:28 I was wondering about that. I love Mandrake the Magician! 😊
Mac OS “10” Its a roman numeral. Not pronounced “ex”.
Cool video! I like your channel. Subbed!
You need a mass storage driver to use a thumb drive in windows 98
Really enjoyed your video! I was a 90s/2000s kid so a lot of this was very nostalgic for me. I have memories of my dad using Mac OS in the 90s, so I enjoyed seeing the old Mac OS UI. I'm also a software engineer so I definitely see and appreciate the advancements in tech. Its crazy seeing a MacBook air today compared to those bricks of laptops that you have in your video LOL
…👏👍🖖
1:21 barely a little way in and i like how you have these machines, i myself running 98se and XP for a lot of my comps even though my f7rst taste of a comp was a commodore 128 that my dad had i now am a retro (kinda) collector with a Dell Inspiron m200st, a Gateway Solo Pro 9300 and am having a hard time finding the drivers for but just love how it has a dedicated rca port, and even a rig that i build that has win xp anyway love the video, subbed for more 😊
I used slackware at that time! Compiled everything from source, even kde 4.0. I got it working. But today i use Debian.
Good video. I remember all those operating systems. In 2000 I ran Windows 98, BeOS 5.0, and Caldera Open Linux 2.4. I switched to Red Hat 7.3 when that came out. For most of the 90's I ran OS/2 Warp 3 and 4. Maybe you remember when QNX 6 came out and was briefly open sourced, and I ran it and was very excited for the possibility of another operating system. The late 90's was a great time for alternative operating systems. I played with FreeBSD and Solaris on x86. I also tried SCO Unixware 7.1 as well.

Back in time, i am used Windows 98 SE, it was for free for a short Time, I still have the CD, it was not Bootable, and i could only Update from Windows 98.
Also back in time ife got an Pirate version of Windows 2000 first the Beta than the Final.
My Brother used Windows ME, and i give him the Final RTM Version of Windows XP and he was Impressed how much faster his Notebook book bekome.
My first Linux was Slackware Linux, Text only, and later SUSE Linux.
I like your enthusiasm for old tech. I owned a gateway solo pentium 3 system back in the day that ran Windows 98SE. Gateway was killing the competition back then in the laptop space. They werent the absolute best, but they were the best price to performance/feature set for sure. I subscribed and hope to see more from you soon.
I remember Windows 98 being the first Window I as a Mac user thought i could live with. I was on like Mac OS 7.6 at the time.
Retro Linux, neat!
Mistake edition
Heck yeah Mandrake
