Randomizing MAC address on startup in Linux

Change MAC address to random on every boot automatically in Linux Mint with macchanger.

Every network interface controller has a MAC address, media access control address, hard coded in its circuit by the manufacturer. Just like an IP address is your ID on the internet, a MAC address is your ID on the local Ethernet network.

Client devices like the laptops or mobile phones periodically broadcast identifying packets that include the MAC address. For example, router will bind an IP address with a MAC address with help of DHCP. And according to Edward Snowden, the National Security Agency has a system that tracks the movements of everyone by monitoring the MAC addresses of their electronic devices.

If you want to hide identity of the device you can change your MAC address. But remember, if you access the internet from your home router, it also has its own MAC address.
