REACTION: Joe Edwards named MILLWALL boss!

Joe Edwards is the new Millwall boss replacing Gary Rowett at The Den. Edwards has been at Chelsea, Everton and England U20’s previously and steps into the hot seat in a club who generally punch their weight in the EFL Championship.

Let me know your take on the hire??

  • i grew up on the old kent road and was always a Millwall fan from the 90s till the day i die…i always make a point ofbwhen my dad took me to the den we were so raw…so in your face…was like watching posh boys up against what i call street footballers..boys who had nothing but a football that had been chewed up by a dog and a pair of moulded stud's playing in a pitch surrounded by a metal cage! Thats where our youth are from and it showed! We are lions and if you're not part our pride…you will be Hunted!

  • It was only worth changing Rowett for something completely different, and this is completely different.

  • Hand on heart little bit shocked we got him over muscat my own personal opinion.but on the other hand its exciting for the club especially the younger lads who have some serious talent so hes the best fit for that side of things to keep our best youngr players essa ect and get us playing a bit more football.hope it turns out good for him and us he could be the missing piece we have been looking for lets hope so time will tell coyl time to roar again

  • As a Millwall fan, pretty agree with everything you said. Yea a gamble, but hopefully a calculated gamble. Likes Rowett and he would always get a warm welcome back from me but it was time for a change and a fresh voice was needed in the changing room and on the training pitch

  • Great video man. Rowett built a great squad but it was awful to watch and stifled the players. There are about 4-5 u21 players that are good enough to play and he just would not play them. Or he would play them, they would perform and then find themselves on the bench. Excited for Edwards.

  • Summed it up very well as usual. Liked Gary, but the right move for all

  • A breath of fresh air, Rowett was stale and taking us nowhere although he did turn us into a competitive Championship side so now hopefully we can push on and make another challenge, maybe not this season but i am optimistic for the future.

  • The big problem and the reason it won’t work is wall fans are impatient

  • Exciting appointment I hope he brings stability and creative football. Thank you Mr Bloom

  • I’m just so happy that we’ve now set off on a different route. Rowetts boring football was stale, transparent, and ultimately dour. We needed a new broom and now we’ve got it. Joe Edwards is young, talented, and attack minded. Your right about us wanting passion and desire, but we also want to be entertained. Under Rowett that was never gonna happen. We’re savvy enough to know it’s gonna take a while for JE. to get us playing how he wants us to, and are prepared to allow him that time. Bottom line is this, I am truly optimistic for the first time in ages. Welcome Joe Edwards. Bring it on. !!!

  • Cards on the table I wanted Muscat, no one else…
Joe needs a couple of 3 wins off the bat to convince the doubters, but if we continue to lose he’ll be off with his tail between his legs by Christmas is my fear…
It’s a tuff job being a Lion, even tougher managing the Pride I imagine …
I just hope he has some new ideas a bit of bite, and enough time to implement them… Cheers Ben 🍻

  • I think your trying to say to us fans be patient? Of course we will but the ethos we will still expect is that a player gives their all – he earns his crust. If we lose 3 , 4 or 6 – 0, if they give their all, then we applaud them off the pitch. We don't like lazy or prima Donna's.
I did not like Rowetts style of play, it was predictable and boring with no plan B, but excited about this new, fresh talent in Joe. COYL

  • Nice review Ben,
As for GR I think most of us had enough of the football and general match day experience. So fucking boring and if it weren't for meeting up with mates you wouldn't bother. This is start in the right direction for us,and we do have the players to compete, but new players will be needed sooner rather then later.
Welcome to the family Joe Edwards, best of luck

  • Good analysis Benjamin.Millwall way has to make way for new era, let's play more like team, and instead of few individuals.Get, togetherness in team, spirit and workrate and fitness.Joe,will hopefully incorporate, balance, shape and pattern of play.Over look the academy (where are strikers!)
Most of us want the team, playing exciting, attacking football, and den will be noisy place again.Good luck Joe.

  • Different, interesting, exciting, but I think Rowett just tried to make a group of predominantly under talented players hard to beat. its been a long time since we played with any confidence and finesse . I fear for the likes of Cooper if we try and play football . However, it's a chance to try a new approach and we need to be patient. Well put together podcast making valid points by the way ………

  • Edwards did say in his interview that he has his own desperate beliefs despite working under many managers in his time (Lampard, Tuchel etc)
Very excited for this, a new direction!

  • Gary Rowett done a great job for Millwall. However, it’s time to move on. As long as we don’t get sucked into a relegation fight ( which I don’t think we will ) I think everyone will be happy to give Joe Edwards time to lay his marker down. It’s going to take time, that’s for sure, and hopefully he is given it.

  • Big January window coming up and I expect to see 3-5 players moved on with a few Chelsea or other Prem loanees coming in.
