• its a boot-strap driver, they need to be signed by microsoft. CS bypass driver signature by updating channels

  – Updating your computers all at once is stupid. (E.g. All three Azure data centers in Ohio not operational, at least one must be, that was a promise. How on Earth could it happen that all three got the same faulty update in the same time?)

  1. using a tails installed usb drive, boot into tails and then remove that file after mounting window partition.

  One single bootable drive CAN save a ton of time and money.

  Apple (Mac OS) is a good example on how to avoid such issues. They have moved away from their kernel extensions to system + network extensions which doesn't allow direct kernel access to any third party software and only expose Apple tested APIs to do low level high privileged stuff.

  And kernel is one of the most critical component of the OS so it should be protected at all costs by the OS (manufacturer) itself.

People also have forgotten the blaster and sasser worms and variants that caused systems to stop bootup. the real question is how this update was tested before it was released to production. I appreciate the Linux humor I am not anti Linux but windows people do know what a file is….. especially important files. also if file systems are encrypted bitlocker etc its a bit more complex.
