See What's New in Ubuntu MATE 20.04 LTS [Desktop Tour]

Ubuntu MATE 20.04 beta version is out. We took it for a spin to show you all the new visual features to this new feature.

The MATE flavor of Ubuntu 20.04 features MATE desktop 1.24 that brings several new GUI applications to its fold. There is a new tool for easily managing mounted disk, firmware update and time zone management.

All in all, this looks like a promising release with plenty of features to be excited about.

If you are already using Ubuntu MATE, you’ll love it. Even if you are not using it, it’s a good choice for systems with not so good hardware specification.

  • I am a very happy Mate user for a few years now, both work and home, and I am looking forward to this release. Great video, loved the music.

  • These are the kinds of videos that ENSURE that the number of Linux users remains static.

  • Ubuntu Mate is really a very nice distro. Ubuntu itself is a good distro, but I think Mate really improves on it. Recently I did a video about Ubuntu Mate 20.04 too. See the Dennis Ray Channel:

  • You are scrolling thru the features far too quickly to evaluate them

  • the music reminded me of that brilliant comedy, What we do in the shadows

  • Looks cool but doesnt look like much changed or added.
I used Ubuntu 14 and 16 for about 6 years, loved it but I finally quit around 2017 when every release changed things that were working and left several crucial bugs problems as is.

  • Have used MATE for over a year, switched to mainstream Ubuntu. Looks like I need to take MATE for a spin again

  • Sadly they are setting compiz aside. I could live without compiz (though I'd rather not) but I really don't want to live without the Enhanced Zoom Desktop, there's nothing as good as this zoom, nothing so user friendly and down to the point. Don't know why Ubuntu distros don't reproduce this zoom instead of the silly and archaic Magnus which is a pain.

  • I'm very impatient to see it running… Can you be more precise about music credits? I like it much and c
an't find anything with just Russian Dance… thx

  • Sir , it was a nice video with perfect background sound.
Recently I am facing a great trouble .
    My Laptop : HP Probook 440 G3 Core i5 6th Gen 1TB HDD 4GB RAM 14" laptop
I installed Ubuntu 18.04 ,19.04 or 19.10 a lot of time (dual boot). I can go with the distro easily 1 or 2 days minimum. Then when I am gonna boot then after sometime it always stuck with pre-log in mode picture with ubuntu sign. I don't understand what to do.
I am really very eager to learn about Linux OS .
    Please help me.

  • Hii thinking of migrating to linux so can you suggest which should i use linux boss or ubuntu or some other for my day to day job….

  • Yes, there's no doubt that I'll be installing it, and once familiar will upgrade all my devices.

  • In UbuntuMATE 18.04 , Brisk Menu crashes too often and I have to set default view for every folder separately in Caja, so I switch to Linux Mint Cinnamon.
I wonder if those issues still happen in 20.04
