[Sept 2020] Combining the Power of IoT & Time-Series

IoT devices and systems collect relentless streams of data – but how do we separate signals from noise and turn this information into action? #Timeseries data analysis to the rescue!

This month’s speakers will share how they’ve architected their data stacks, what they’ve learned along the way (plus any best practices or things to avoid), and demo their projects to inspire fellow #IoT enthusiasts.

You’ll learn how Andy Meira (Grillo founder) and team have built an #opensource earthquake early-warning platform, using tools like TimescaleDB, Grafana, and Docker, that’s currently used all around the world to provide communities with seconds – or even minutes! – of advance warning (and time to take precautionary measures) before any shaking is felt.

From there, Mario Ishikawa (PackIOT CTO) breaks down best practices and advice for modeling data from machines. You’ll hear how he’s configured TimescaleDB to suit his needs, plus how (and why) to use things like JSONB, narrow v. wide tables, materialized views, and continuous aggregates across various use cases.
