Session 8 – Network Management SNMP v2 & v3 Overview
Summary
Sessions 8 and 9 of this class cover many aspects of network management – Operations,
Accounting, Maintenance, Provisioning/Performance (OAMP). Session 8 focus on the network
management protocols, monitoring protocols, and tools. The dominating network management
protocol is Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). SNMP v1 is obsoleted. SNMP v2
still has small installation, while SNMP v3 has better security features. Remote Monitoring
Protocol (RMON) goes hand-in-hand with SNMP. We will also assess a few Network
